o I 0 Q E f dl MR, LLOYD J. SCHURR Principal ' The junior high school deals with students who are in a chronological age of accelerated change and contradiction. This is not unique to the students of 1959. It is our belief that junior high school students want to know what is expected of them, and respect discipline when they do not come up to the standards which are acceptable to their group. Understand- ing of their problems and their emotional and physical make-up are essential in setting up mutually-accepted behavior standards. Fairness and firmness are pre-requisites in helping them achieve these standards. The school cannot, by itself, set up standards for students away from school. This is the job and responsibility of the parents and the community. This responsibility must be accepted by all members of the parent-school-community team if junior high students are to get the feeling of guidance and security which is especially essential in this stage of their development MR, R, ELVIN MILLER Counselor One of the main purposes of guidance is to aid the student in understanding himself. This self-understanding falls into three general areas: scholastic, social, and emotional, The information is gained by means of stand- ardized tests, school work, conferences with parents, stui dents, and faculty members. By means of the student conference, this information is relayed to the student so that he may make more appro- priate choice of action, school schedules and life work. Qi'
