quute place them After eatung breakfast I proceeded up town Newsboys everywhere were yellung Extra Ex tra read all about ut My curuosuty gettung the best of me I bought a paper Readung the account un the paper I notuced ut was about Vurgunua Leugh a famous actress formerly from Old Lyme De cudung to see uf she was the gurl I knew un our class of 44 I went to see her at the Harkness Meducal Hosputal Upon enterung a room I col luded wuth a nurse that seemed to be almost on the run I looked up and saw those black curls agaun I now realuzed that ut was Mary Appleby e was on her way to see the new patuent that was brought un so I went wuth her Lookung at t us luttle hgure I was much amazed to see that ut was Vurgunua Muller poor kud stull unconscuous Askung Mary about her she told me Vurgunua had been actung for many years She was now playung the leadung part un her husband s latest play A I had to catch the 2 30 plane to New Mexuco I bade farewell to Mary Enterung the plane a pretty stewardess showed me to my chaur Whule makung me comfortable she talked contunuously If I wanted to complaun ut would have been of no use She looked famuluar but I was too occupued to recognuze her As the plane soared toward the heavens I began to suffer a headache As the stewardess offered her assust ance she looked at me strangely as uf she recog nuzed me She asked me uf I had ever luved reservatuons at The Brunker Hotel As the hotel was hot and stuffy I decuded to go take a look at thus beautuful landscape No tucung what was once a well kept farm and now seemed shut down I decuded to look around En terung the yard two large growlung black dogs darted around me Afraud to move I just stood and stared In the doorway was a rather pretty woman and behund her stood what must be her husband He seemed much older than she Feelung self conscuous I gazed at the house and saw small heads un most every wundow Goung nearer to the woman I notuced she had bug brown eyes I remem bered back un hugh school a gurl un our class had brown eyes Could thus be Ruth Maynard the gurl I always knew to be so dugnufied9 Funally rec ognuzung me she spoke Several weeks ago l was unfortunate enough to get un the way of a reckless druwer and because of that ended up un the hosputal wuth a broken leg Much to my amazement I heard a famuluar vouce and when I finally opened my eyes I found I had not been dreamung It was a grrm realuty I was un the hosputal and of all people anet Stan hope was my nurse We had a wonderful con versatuon although her work was neglected A uf she ever dud any' She told me that ummeduately after school she had left tl' little hamlet of South Lyme and taken up nursung un the largest cuty she could fund New York She was now luvung wuth her husband a Naval ofhcer un an ultra modern apartment un one of New York s swankuest hotels anet had advanced to head nurse and was en yoyung her work ummensely About thus tume she was called elsewhere leavung me wonderung why she
