Witnesses: 37 CLASS PROPHECY Here is your roving reporter, Gordie Grabarkewitz, in the year 1983 checking out the leading citizens of America. Our first stop takes us to the most famous radio station in America, which just happens to be CKLW, to honor their top two men in broadcasting, Gary Perkins and Jeff Stover. These two are graduates of O.F.H.S. and happen to be tops at what they do. As we move on by plane to New York ' s Bellevue Hospital, we notice that Pete Strang is pilot and head man on this Boeing 1983 which has four floors and the latest in luxuries. We find a bum hiding in the tail of the plane, who gives his name as Doug Rosenberger. We fit him with a parachute and out he goes. We land in New York and are driven by Army Brigadier General Mike Stiger to the hospital. Here we are met by nurses Linda Steyer, Bobbie Jo Borough, and Donna Moore and are immediately introduced to Dr. Priddy and have our picture taken by old photo flash, Jane Nye. After a brief tour of the hospital with the Dr. ' s top assistant, Carma Marshall, we are off again. We fly to the United States Business and Commerce Building and we are met by the three major stockholders of the company, Dave Jibilian, Bruce Lutz, and Tom Whitman. We are led through the many offices and are greeted and warmly welcomed by secretaries Denise Barger, Nancy Laird, Liz Druckenmiller, Pam Heilman, and Mary Bastian, and are pleasantly surprised when we are greeted in Spanish by the company ' s bilingual secretary, Gladhys Ordonez. We all agree that they are very efficient with their hands . . . when it comes to typing. We move on to Detroit ' s Tiger Stadium to have a quick chit-chat with Detroit ' s outstanding manager, Dan DeMoss, on their chances in ' 83. Well, we ' ll need our usual good pitching plus another outstanding year out of our 27-year old superstar Ken Barth, who happens to be an oil millionaire in the off season. Also, this year we have Jim Thomson, a physical education teacher at O.F.H.S., who is leading spring training exercises. Things got off to a wobbly start but he has brought about some consistency in our aging bones. We move on to a large ultra-modern welding, draft¬ ing, and mechanical complex which is owned and operated by Jerry Cantu, Ken Biller, Tom Bryon, Larry Keim and Allen Neeley. We are surprised when they inform us that their shop has made them all five millionaires in ten short years. Amazing! On we go to an engineering school for underprivileged kids which is run by Kim Stiger and Dave Pence. Through hard work and much effort they have created a small miracle. As we fly on we pass over a huge spread owned by successful farmer, Jim Burks. However, I develop a toothache and we head for Dr. Drake ' s office and I ' m met by his assistant, Peggy Druckenmiller. She informs us that instead of the usual use of novocain, you are induced into a pain free feeling by psychologists, Amy Lutz and Betsy Wise. I soon feel better and we head for Mr. Wiggs and are met by head salesclerk, Linda Joseph, and she informs us that there will soon be a hair style and fashion show performed by world famous model, Lynn Perry. We took time out of our journey and got a sneak preview of the coming spring fashions for 1984. We go next door to a factory called Make A Bag which is owned by Rosemary Nighswander and operated by Glen Moore. It ' s a fantastic operation which is run very well by Mr. Moore. We stop by Zimmerman ' s car lot and end up buying a used 1965 two-tone Mustang at a very low price. It was a one-day sale at only 43 cents. We stop at an L K and see our old friend Marge Huffman and are given outstanding service. We head for fun city, Cedar Point, which is now owned by V. L. Borough and Co. I saw some old friends, Lynda Abbott and Dave Omlor, who are both back from Germany. For Lynda, it was pure pleasure, but for David it meant active duty after graduation from West Point. I am treated to a fabulous art show by Andrea Fry before I am asked to present 6 ft. trophies to both Martha Price and Connie Whitman who tied for Housewife of the Year in America. Well, it ' s been 12 days but it seems to have lasted 12 years. Old Fort has produced many great citizens but none like the group I have just mentioned. This is Gordie Grabarkewitz saying good-bye and good luck to the seniors of Old Fort High School in the year 1973. THE CURIOUS SAVAGE” 62 PLAY A $10,000,000 teddy bear? Lily Belle - one of the greedy children. Don ' t you think I’m pretty. Mrs. Savage reads the newspaper which shocks the rest of the inmates. On the night of October 28, 1972, the Senior Class of 1973 proudly presented The Curious Savage, a rollicking three-act play. The curtain went up on the first act and dis¬ played a beautiful set representing the Cloisters , a mental sanitarium, run by Dr. Emmett and his nurse, Miss Willie. The audience was introduced to some loveable inmates. Into this seemingly quiet atmosphere comes the wealthy Ethel Savage, who life and personality is indeed curious and changes all who come in contact with her. She is placed here by her selfish children who want to control her fortune. Her children go through all sorts of misadventures and schemes to get her money but Mrs. Savage outwits them with the help of the patients and the play ends on a happy note as Mrs. Savage, as well as her friends, realize their dreams. The play was directed by Mr. Robert Yaekel with Lynn Perry and Vickie Borough assisting. The Student Council was very active this year. The Council was designed to keep students happy with school. If they had a problem or suggestion, the student or students were to talk it over with a Council member who would bring it up at the next meeting. One of the first jobs was to build a suggestion box that was placed in the hall. The largest projects for the year are shown on the following pages. The mock election was a learning experience as well as fun. It just didn ' t seem to last long enough. But it ended when rivalry was at its peak. The Arkansas Lassie game was quite an experience--not only for the men faculty, but for the audience. We not only worked hard for our own club, but also for other organizations such as collecting pennies for the Children ' s Hospital in Columbus. Having two skating parties, one in the fall and one in the spring, proved to be quite profitable. Also, vari ous bake sales helped us raise money for our club. F.H.A. was especially rewarding for two Seniors in our club this year. These were Amy Lutz and Bobbie Jo Borough who achieved their State Homemaker Degree. We were proud to have these two Seniors represent us at the State Convention in Columbus. All the accomplishments we made this year came about with the helpful guidance of our Advisor, Mrs. Watson. Even though they were defeated they still hung in there with the great spirit and desire that carried the team and coach through a heartbreaking season of rain and inclement weather. Finally, the team would like to thank Coach Omlor for all he went through and the fans for supporting us so well. Old Fort has a great baseball program and a fantastic future in store. 104 1973 Senior Pitcher Dan DeMoss in action during Sectional Tournament Finals with O.F. trailing 4-2. Old Fort went on to lose 10-8 despite a late inn¬ ing rally. This curtailed the tourna¬ ment action for the Stock- aders and ruined a chance to go on to district play. It would have been the sixth trip in seven years. 105 OLD FORT IN TOURNAMENT ACTION Warming up before the game. Senior Co-Captain Ken Barth leads off first base after rapping a single. Sophomore Dave Hoke waits on the pitch. Sophomore John Hoover warms up before an inning. Junior first baseman Ron Fortney fires ball homeward. 106 ACTION SNAPS The team looks on with hope. -j y •r ' “ ■ - . • “ .If firrA.-. SHfe ; :- -.
