STEVE S. | ABBOTT C. RICK L. LINDA W. DAN C. BILL W. WAYNE H. FRANK H. NANCY R. PATSY C. T I Class History On September 7, 1954, fifty-five (55) inexperienced first graders started climbing the ladder of learning. Of the original fifty-five, twenty-six remain to graduate. In our last year of Elementary School, Mrs. Cloutier and Mr. Rinehart were our teachers. Christina Huffman and Steven Shireman joined our class this year. In the seventh grade Mr. Mehaffey was our advisor. Changing classes this year proved to be quite a thrill. Sandra Dicken, Richard Lutz, and Clarence Roth joined us. Mr. Mehaffey also led us through the eighth grade. This year the class officers were: Dan Cleveland-President, Randy Martin-Vice-President and Patricia Clifton-Secretary-Treasurer. Also this year, Wayne Hoover and Sue Mowery joined us. As Freshmen, Mr. Lutz was our advisor. This year we selected our class rings and presented Mother Is A Freshman as our Junior class play. Our Junior-Senior Prom Theme was Polynesian Night. Mr. Goddard and Mrs. Newman were our advisors in our Senior year. Scharla Vollmar joined us while Charles and Clarence Prenzlin left our ranks. The class officers for this year were: Bill Buskirk-Rresident; Norman Murray-Vice-Presi¬ dent; Nancy Willis-Secretary; Linda Wickert-Treasurer and Clarence Roth-Reporter. This year ' s Senior Class had a total of thirty-seven (37). We presented the play Our Town, had our pictures taken, edited another annual, and started down the ladder as we patiently waited for graduation day. Class Prophecy Since the government has always managed to mix things up, I was not surprised when I received a special message. The President, NANCY WILLIS, had chosen me for a dangerous assignment. ROBERT BASTIAN and WILLIAM BUSKIRK, the leading chemists in America, had discovered a drug for eternal youth. Knowing that I wasn ' t the one they really wanted, I had my secretary, PATSY CLIFTON, take a letter. Addressed to LINDA WICKERT, head of the Medical Association, the letter told of a more suited specimen that I for the drug. I recommended DOUG PICCIUTO, the winner of the Decathalon. Having a curious mind, I decided to investigate the whole matter. I called home from my office and had my valet, DAVID WHITMAN, pack my bags. I went home in a taxi driven by MIKE BLUE, and got my bags. As I went through customs, TINA HUFFMAN and NANCY RECKER, the two stewardesses, hustled me to the plane that had been held over for me. As we soared through the heavens, I looked down upon the farms of DAN CLEVELAND and NORMAN MURRAY. They were in the fields, making hay, with the help of their hired men, GARY DICKEN and BRADLEY GIBSON. After looking at many such tableaus during the next two hours, I was happy to see the airport come in to view. We landed smoothly under the crisp handling of WAYNE HOOVER, our pilot. I sauntered into the lobby where I was greeted cheerfully by CHARLOTTE FAUSEY, the receptionist. She gave me directions to the best hotel in town, which was owned and operated by ABBOTT CASSELMAN. I went there immediately and requested a room with bath. After I signed the register, DA LEE RIEDEL, the clerk, handed me my key. After I had unpacked, I rang for room service. The maid, LINDA HUBER, brought fresh towels and drew me a hot bath. After soaking luxuriously for an hour, I dressed and went down to the bar. The bar-keeper, CLARENCE ROTH, known as the best in town, mixed me a Bloody Mary. When I remarked on the excellence of the tomato juice used in my drink, the bar-tender said he used only the best. And he ordered them from SCOTT RANSOM ' S greenhouse. The plane flight had exhausted me so completely that I decided to stay over and recuperate for a few days. I walked down the side-walk looking at the town, when a flaming red dragster came screaming past, driven by JAMES DOWNING. He was soon stopped by a wailing patrol car driven by JERRY HULL, the State Trooper. As the ticket was being written, I happened to spy a barbershop. I hurried to it, and had my hair trimmed by FRANK HOOVER, the barber. When I stepped out onto the sidewalk, the appetizing aroma of warm rolls came wafting across the street. I crossed at the intersection and entered the bakery where the proprietor, SUE MOWERY, sold me several doughnuts and a cup of coffee. She was confident of the excellence of her food because RICK LUTZ inspected her bake shops for her. After two restful days, I decided to continue my journey by car. I bought one from RANDY MARTIN, the local dealer, and hired RICK DE MOSS to drive it for me. As we headed further north, the climate became much chillier. We stopped in a small town and I purchased a tailor-made over-coat at SCHARLA VOLLMAR ' S Tailor Shop. When my driver stopped at STEVE SHIREMAN ' S filling station for gas, I had the mechanic, MIKE MAGERS, install a larger heater. Since we hadn ' t eaten all day, we stopped at a diner owned by SANDRA DICKEN. We ate a very sumptuous meal served to us by JEAN ABBOTT, the waitress. After a night of steady driving, I finally arrived at the research station. To my surprise, they had rashly decided to try the drug without testing it first. All but LINDA SANFORD, the staff nurse, had tried the wondrous liquid. And they had all slowly taken on their youth again. The nurse had managed to group all the squalling infants in one room. I sent out a signal, which an Air Force jet picked up as it roared over. JIM STEYER, the pilot, relayed the message to the base. They sent a rescue team headed by BILL WELTIN in a helicopter. With great expediency the babies were dispatched to the nearest hospital, which was two hundred and thirty-five miles away. The doctor in charge of the maternity ward, STEVE RYMAN, soon made them comfortable with his professional bedside manner. Thus the future finds all the members of the graduating class of 66 with a secure niche in life. Senior Will We, the Seniors of ' 66, being of sound mind and body, do hereby will the following to the underclassmen of Old Fort High School: To the Juniors we will the stamina and determination which we displayed during our four years of high school. To the Sophomores we will our ability to excel in the field of athletics, in hopes that they will be as successful as we were. To the Freshmen we will our old and badly battered textbooks, in hopes that they will take the time to repair them. Having the uttermost confidence in our lawyer, John Brueggemeir, we, the members of the senior class, do leave him to carry out the following requests after we have departed. I, Steve Shireman, being in a sound state of mind, do hereby will nothing to anyone, but will auction my coon dog, Belle, to the highest bidder. I, NANCY RECKER, will my old blonde string bass, Bessie, to anyone in the fifth grade who is tall enough to hold her. I, SANDRA DICKEN, will all of my books to the future Senior class, in hopes they will use them better than I did. We realize that without their support we would have had to curtail some of the features that make our yearbook more interesting and desirable. This year’s issue of “The Trail” sold nearly two hundred seventy copies and will be read by many times that number of people interested in the activities and accomplishments of the student body at Old Fort High School. “The Trail” Staff would like to request that all our firends please mention “The Trail” when they make purchases from our advertisers. In that way we may continue to merit their support and at the same time provide them with a valuable advertising service. THE EDITORS tme mssam
