No one has answered this ques- tion, but everyone does know that once it has gone it will never come again. Life cannot be relived, but it can be remembered. That is the purpose of our annual, to recall to many people the days spent in school. The days which are the happiest, busiest and most rewarding of anyone's life. May these days be remembered with a smile as you look through this book, now and in the future years. The Senior Class wishes to thank the faculty, advisors, sponsors, and everyone who helped make this annual possible. H Hung A Sketch of the New Elementary School Building DEDICATION We, the seniors of nineteen fifty-five, dedicate this annual to the citizens of the Old Fort School District. Through their generosity and kindness they have passed a bond issue which will provide for an elementary school building. The new school building will take care of the overflow of grade children and provide the much needed space. Q '75 Sjziuff 1- Eff? . CLASS HISTORY On September 7, 1943, thirty-three inexperinced first graders started climbing the ladder of learning. Of the original thirty-three, eleven re- main to graduate. Mrs. Mosier was our first helper. That year we pre! sented the play, Little Black Sambo, before an audience. Mrs. Shaull taught us writing during our second year. In the second grade we had the misfortune of going to school on Saturdays. With Miss Day as our teacher, we began the third grade. We learned our multiplication tables. We gained several new students that are still attending this school. Miss Dick guided us through the fourth grade. In the fifth grade, Miss Lynch led the way. Mrs. Cloutier was our sixth grade teacher. In Junior High School we had two advisors, Mr. Mehaffey and Miss Robinson. The highlight of our eighth year was presenting the play The Little Red School House before the school. Graduating from the eighth grade, we received diplomas into Senior High School. As freshmen we received the customary Freshmen Initiation. Mr. Crosby was our advisor. Our sophomore advisor was Miss Hixson. The highlight was that some of the sophomore boys and girls served at the J unior-Senior Banquet. Mrs. Newman and Mr. Austermiller were advisors for our Junior year. Activities included receiving class rings and presenting the annual Junior Class Play entitled Meek But Merry. The exciting highlight of the year was decorating for the J unior-Senior Banquet. The theme for the banquet was a carnival. Now we have reached our Senior year. Looking back through the years, many memories come to mind. In the years to come, these mem- ories will always be a part of our unforgettable days in school. As we review our climb up the ladder of learning we notice it has not always been an easy one, but with the help of our teachers We have reached the twelfth rung. We wish to thank the many teachers and other employees for their help and guidance further up the ladder of learning. We hope that in years to come they will be rewarded for their time and effort spent in helping us. in school. R PROPHECY I left Old Fort High in '55 to seek my wealth in gold. I also found some classmates whose fates may now be told. I traveled to the big city and who did I happen to see But Carol Keim, she's still as busy as can be. She said she had planned a party and it would be a ball. That night when I went to the party, I hung my coat in the hall And Jeannette Johnson came to greet me, Oh, gee! she had grown real tall! We talked over our school days, and classmates names began to recall. As Mistress of the Keyboard we remember Jane I-Ieckerd. She's now a stand-in for Liberace, We need that for the record. And we remember Annette Wagner and her violin. She is now working with Jane as brother George's stand-in. Two weeks later I traveled to Florida and met the Beauty of the State. She happened to be Darlene Hammer, another classmate. There also I met a salesman, the best the state had seen And it happened to be Tom DeRan, selling Freckle Cream. We stopped for dinner in a restaurant to talk the old times o'er. And found Sylvia Blaney to be the restaurant's proprietor. Next day I was rushed to a hospital with a big bump on my head, Where I awoke to find Eileen Lemmerman and Colleen Mehaffey standing beside my bed. They were dressed in nurses' uniforms, then it all came back to me, In '55 they always said, Nurses we're going to be. Retta Shaull's voice has gotten her far, She's furthering her career as a Metropolitan star. We remember Ron Fowler, he never drove slow. Now he drives at a race track, and is rolling in dough. And who's running the race track? Ronnie Fry is the boss, And with Fowler driving, never suffers a loss. Realizing her dream is Nancy DeRan. She's now very busy, keeping house for her man. I later attended a party and met a girl dressed in fur, And recognized Jack Blue as the fellow with her. Remember Don Witter and Ken Estep and their trophies from debates? They now sit in the Senate, representing different states. Martha Kemp has taken to acting in a big way. She now has her name in lights shining down on Broadway. Nancy Koke is Dean of Women at a large state college. She keeps the girls in line while they absorb knowledge. Pat McCoy we remember with her cheerleading pep. She's now Sarge in the WACs, and you should see her step. The 1954-55 basketball season proved to be an extremely successful one. It ended with Old Fort reigning as Champion of the Seneca County Tournament. The Stockaders, also, tied for the run- ner-up spot in the County League race. Old Fort and Bettsville each ended league play with 6-3 records. In the tournament, the Stockaders romped over Melmore but had to come from behind and win an overtime contest from Bloomville to gain the coveted position in the finals. Again in the finals, Old Fort had to come from behind to gain the first- place trophy. This was the first tourna- ment championship for Old Fort since 1945. The team advanced to the District Tournament in Tiffin but was defeated by Leipsic, the Hancock County Champion. TEAM O. F.
