The beginning of the End MAY Junior-Senior Banquet, graduation practice, that strange feeling of joy and nostalgia, and the excitement of those last days brought the year to a close. Each event was greeted by Seniors ' cries that it is the last. Under- classmen realized that there would be other high school years, but each felt the senti- mental feeling that there would never be another year such as this. Looking back brought memories of work, pleasure, friend- ship, and the realization that the year has passed with the speed of wonderful times, leaving lasting memories. 16

Administration The operational success of Old Fort School has been largely due to the quiet, efficient management of the principal, P.W. Greer, In addition to his regular multitudinous duties, this year Mr, Greer is directing the faculty in compiling in- formation and courses of study for re-accreditation by the State Department of Public Instruction, Once this is achieved, work will continue for accreditation by the Southern Associ- ation of Colleges and Secondary Schools, Improvement of the quality of education on the local level is attributed to Mr, Greer ' s unceasing efforts on behalf of the students and com- munity. A man of grave responsibilities, Mr, James E, Johnson serves McDowell County as superintendent of public schools, Mr, Johnson supervises county-wide curriculum and physical facilities, and handles all administrative problems of the seven- school system. Serving the school as secretary, Mrs, Margie Thomason is an asset to school management. The order and accuracy with which she keeps school records and carries on school correspondence has improved work- ing conditions for the faculty and Mr. Greer, Mrs, Leola Wright, supervisor, is charted with the respon- sibilities of the free exchange of ideas between teachers in the county. Mrs. Wright also observes county-wide methods of instruction and offers her advice and help. 18
