crri 7 Our Future McDowell Co. Public Library 90 W. Court St. Marion, NC 28752 PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF OLD FORT HIGH SCHOOL OLD FORT, NORTH CAROLINA FAITH IN OUR For We Shall Reflect Our Teachers’ Teachings In E verything We Do . . FAITH IN OUR For It Must Serve Us For The Rest Of Our Lives The process of a chemistry experiment, the basic pattern of life, must be perfected through a method of trial and error. Each trial must be founded on experience and knowledge. Each error must serve as a correction. Time and the skill derived from knowledge will bring each endeavor closer to man ' s ideal, the ultimate goal of per- fection. Homecoming, Old Fort victory, and school spirit promotion supplement the necessary goals of the well-rounded education needed for the future. FAITH IN OUR For They Reflect Us Athletically And Socially Good Sportsmanship is a key to success. It aids in building character and its presence makes a well-balanced individual. Being able to work in harmony with one ' s fellow man is a trait which must be developed. Learning to lead, learning to receive and carry out orders, learning to do more than the minimum re- quirements, always striving to do a more out- standing job than the previous one. These are the true aspects to good sportsmanship. An outstanding athlete is lost without his team- mates and a coach to guide him. With these assets however, he functions at his best. Only those who help themselves by helping their colleagues will find the road to success and self-respect a smooth one. FAITH IN OUR For We Must Learn To Live With The World The active and well-informed citizen of the present day feels that he owes much to the experience which he has obtained during his high school career. This experi- ence can be ours only if we have faith to seek ... to work ... to obtain. FAITH IN OUR For We Are The Backbone Of The Future FAITH IN OUR For We Must Gain Experience Now . . . Each and every individual must have a certain amount of integrity and fortitude. The person who is shoul- dered with the greatest burden of trust, however, must be of extremely high caliber. He or she will be a leader of the future and will always be striving to gain in experience and knowledge. Faith in the future of our leadership will depend solely upon our efforts and desires. FAITH IN OUR For Wherever We Go . . . Whatever We Do . . . page 13 Page 43 Organizations Elementary Page 57 Page 69 Page 86 Q6‘S Life, as an unconquered summit. Offers a Challenge. A beckoning Accolade. Time, with its infinite treasures. Assures the mortal A Pathway to Success. ADMINISTRATION The success of the school’s mission - to instruct and to guide - Is greatly dependent upon the day«-by-day labors of the school administration. Faculty members perform their duties with quiet efficiency and dedication to purpose. Their efforts are culminated year after year with the graduation of a new senior class. ADMINISTRATION Mr. G reer, our devoted principal, recently launched an intensive program for the re-evaluation and improve- ment of Old Fort High School, the goal of which is ac- creditation by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. Mr. Greer feels that only through such constant endeavor toward the higher goals in ed- ucation can a school adequately prepare the student for a full and rewarding life. Scholarship is not merely the maintenance of good grades: it is an attitude . . . the attitude of constant aspiration and endeavor toward the higher goals in education. Schol- arship is a virtue , . . the virtue of fulfilling one ' s duty to his God and to his fellowmen by developing his potential abilities. Every student must come to realize that only by going beyond the minimum and striving for the maximum can he attain true scholar- Class of 1963 Our step forward from Old Fort School as graduates is taken with pride . , . pride in our accomplishments and our intentions. But the step is not unfaltering; for we realize that as we go, behind us we leave childhood, and before us we encounter life. During our twelve years, we have, through the dedicated guidance of our teachers, fellowship with friends, and personal endeavor, gained not only scholastic but also social education. In the course of our advancement through the levels of secondary school, we have gradually put away childish things and attained a new, more mature perspective of life. As we now stand on the threshold of adulthood, we pause and bid a fond and appreciative farewell to Old Fort School and her beloved faculty. Unfortunately, the win was the exception rather than the rule, for eight of the ten hard-fought games of the 1962 season ended in defeat for the Redskins, However, fans and players eagerly await the 1963 season, for, as Coach Washburn has speculated, This year ' s team was light and inexperienced but had great zeal and spirit. The Redskins should be well worth watching for the next few years because of their poten- tial to develop into a championship team. Allison, Ronald Silver.
