This was a great year for the Juniors. At last they were real upperclassmen. The 55 members of the class struggled through courses of chemistry, physics, typing, geo- metry, French, American literature and United States history. Still there was time for the traditional projects of the Junior class. These included the magazine sale, the Junior- Teacher basketball game and finally the Junior-Senior Banquet. Several members of the class were honored by being selected as Junior Marshals. The ninth month of school rolled in, final exams were over and now the Juniors ea- gerly look forward to next year when they become Seniors. Q0 In summarizing our football campaign of 1960, we must conclude that we had our bright moments in a not too bright season. Our season's record was 2 wins and 7 losses. We won over Crossnore and Tryon, lost to Salem, Bakersville, Spruce Pine, Glen Alpine, N.C. S. D., Oak Hill, and Drexel. In the Bakersville game, penalties at critical times killed two touch- dovm drives. Our d efen s e held Oak Hill to two first downs, but we lost 7-6. In the Drexel game our defense once again was superb, holding a good Drexel team to two first downs but losing 14-0 on a fumble picked up by a Drexel player for a tou chdown and on a 7 yard run during the last minute of the game. Marriage, work, scholastic grades, and key players not reporting for practice robbed the team of five starting members. These players could have made a difference in several games. We found several stars during this season's play which will help us in the years to come. FOOTBALL Elliott calls signals. ACTION! I Robertson picks up yardage. ACTION! I An end run by Crisp. Locke and four other seniors Dan Grindstaff, Steve McCauley, Wayne Allen, and Eddie Rhine- hardt form the heart of the team.
