Class Hzstory Back rn 1948, we were 116 eager yet somewhat apprehenswe, young boys and g1rls settlng out on a glouous twelve year adventure For some It be g an the total formal preparat1on for llfe 1nth1s fast mov1ng space age For others rt was to be the steppmg stone for add1t1onal tra1n1ng For all of us lt was the gateway to a vast world of knowledge, wh1ch we opened l1ttle by l1ttle as we went along ln the pr1mary g r a de s we g1ve our thanks to those who taught us to read and wr1te and f1nd our way around school The great event of enterlng hrgh school was made poss1ble by the nurture and gu1dance g1ven us by those devoted teachers 1n the lower grades As we ente1ed h 1 g h school, our class of 96 students was d1v1ded rnto three sectrons wrth Mrs Loulse I-laney Mr jamesWashburn and Mr Donald Thomas as homeroom teachers The changes from grammar school weme great, but we adjusted qurclaly to the new sltuatxon Class presldents for the year we e A11ce Banks Harold Hensley and Robert I-Iarrrs Our Sophomore yearwas f1l16ClW1tl'l study as part of the class began preparmg defmltely for future and further educatxon The number 1n our class rema1ned falrly stable th1s year Gerry B1shop, Pat Allen and Tommy Lytle led us as class pres1dents, and homeroom teachers we re Mrs Betty Marston, Mrs Bula Taylor and Mrs I-laney When we became junrors, we were elated and strove to contr1bute much that year We even out sold the Senrors 1n the magazme sales campa1gn'Present1ng the jumor play Krssm Cous1n under Mrs Grace Tay1or's d1rect1on helped ra1se money for the jumor Sen1or Banquet the hxghhght of the year Under the gu1dance of Mrs Taylor Mrs Sache Marlowe and Mr Washburn, t was a busy year 1n our school l1fe As W entered school last fall our number had dropped to 61 yet we are the largest graduatmg class 1n the h1 story of the school We have struggled through 'Beowulf and Macbeth, lsosles tuangles, the Revolutronary and C1v11Wars, magnesuun chlonde, the cause and cure of depress1on However, we have only scratched the surface l-l1ghl1ght of thls our Semoryear IS the class trrp toWash1ngton, cllmaxed by the -Iun1o1 Sen1or Banquet and graduatlon ceremonles Mrs I-lelen Shlflet and lvlrs Truby Pa1nte1 h ave gu1ded us th1 syear and Butch G1bbs has served us well as class presrdent All 1n the Famrly' was presented as the class play College IS ID v1ew for some of us,cher1shed memones are held by all ofus It IS our hope that we shall have as much happrness 1n the future as we have had rn the past twelve years GILBERT LIPE Class I-hstorran 1959 60 26 . 7 . - D , - . . , . . . , . . .
