Ben Peek and Lloyd Porter, co-captains of the football team, participated in the crowning of the Queen. An added feature for the occasion was the introduction of players and their parents during halftime. Lynn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Shiflet, was presented a spray of yellow chrysanthemums and members of her court received corsages of yellow mums. The Queen, a m e mb eriof the junior Class and a cheerleader, was escorted by Kenneth D. Carver. Members of the Queen's court included Margaret McEntire, Senior Attendant, escorted by Haskell Davis, Pat Allen, junior Attendant, escorted by Kenneth Rhinehardt, B arb ara Peek, Sophomore Attendant, escorted by Locke Kelley, and Joyce Lytle, Freshman Attendant, escorted by Revill Mallory. Homecoming mascots, dressed as Indians, were Nancy Greer, daughter of Principal and Mrs. P. W. Greer, and Cathy Griffin, daughter of Coach and Mrs. Kenneth Griffin. Enthusiasm was at a high level as a parade was held Friday afternoon after school. The crowning of the Queen and the team's victory was climaxed by a dance-which was held in the school cafeteria following the game. P11110 64 I Qndians Defeat Sdncyvilf Page The Old F ort Redskins started out their 1958 football season on August 15, when the boys reported for practice, They were looking forward to a successful s e ason, which they achieved with a record of four wins, four losses, and one tie game. The Redskins started the season by playing I-lot Springs. In this game several touchdowns were nullified by penalties. Robert Harris and L l oy d Porter w e nt over for the touch- downs and Richard Padgham made the extra points. Then it was time to m e et Tryon. The Redskins were beaten in this g am e but th e boys still had fait h in each other. Bruce Bradley rn ade the two touchdowns and Lloyd Porter made the extra point. In the third game of the season, Mars I-Iill and Old Fort battled to a standstill as the game ended with a tie. Glen A l pin e was on Old Fort soil for one of the best games of the season, even if the Redskins were the losers. Old Fort went to Spruce Pine to play Harris High. This was a very close game. Bruce Bradley, Harold Hensley, and Richard Padgham scored for our team that night. Old Fort w as host to the Clyde C ardin als. Richard Padgham and Lloyd Porter ran the touchdowns, with Robert Harris and Richard Padgham running the extra points. This game was another thriller of the season. Edneyville had the pleasure of seeing Old Fort's Horne- coming Queen crowned. The Redskins had another winning night. Lloyd Porter, Donnie S outhe r, and Robert Harris made our four touchdowns with Richard P adg h a m going over each time for the extra point. The end of the season came for the Redskins when they played Drexel. ln this game Lloyd Porter was the key player. We are proud to h av e Lloyd Porter and Tommy Lytle chosen on the All-Conference t e am. Lloyd was chosen to play inthe Lion's Bowl game in Forest City. I-le made a very good showing. Everyone is very proud of the excellent team and good season we had this year. The Redskins prove d that they can play winning baseball by compiling a 7-5 record. By looking more closely at the five losses, four of them were lost by only one run. jerry Souther, Roy Robertson, and H arold Hensley did a remarkable job of pitching. Our defensive play was headed by outfielders, Lloyd Porter, Bruce Br adley and Streaker Grindstaffg lnfielders, G. G.
