Class History ln September of 1944, approxi- mately ninety of us youngsters began our long voyage on the Sea of Knowl- edge. With frightened, yet eager countenances, we all trouped into our different classrooms. Not knowing what everything was all about, we soon became ac- quainted with this new life under the guidance of our understanding teach- ers, Miss Mary Burgin, Mrs. Nichols, and Miss Calhoun. After learning our basic ABC 's, and how to apply these letters to the things we knew, we traveled on to the second leg of our iourney. There, we were met by Mrs. Glossie Pyatt, and Mrs. Elizabeth Lindley, who acquain- ted us with various other methods of learning. With this great store of knowl- edge, we stepped on up to the third grade. With Mrs. Grace Steppe, Mrs. Lindley, and Mrs. Taylor directing us, we began to study such fascinating things as What makes the World go Round, and various other strange new things. From there, we went on to the Fourth Grade. Under the guidance of Mrs. Margaret Harris, Mrs. Enloe, and Mrs. Wilson, we learned our multipli- cation tables, and began studying more about History and Geography. With Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Brad- ley, and Miss Roberts to guide us in the fifth grade, Miss Powell, Mrs. Lonon, and Miss Davis in the sixth, and H UG H VESS BARBARA WALKER SAMMIE ALLISON ............ We were herded through the last lap of our grammar school education by Miss Betty Sue McCraw and Charles Estep. Then began that long awaited moment--High School! That ninth year was surely an exciting one. We were separated and put in home rooms. We discovered our total ignorance to school pro- cedures, and we had to learn all over again. Miss Field, Mr. Woodward, Miss Biddix, Mr. Wil- liams, and Mrs. Church assisted us in righting ourselves. Mr. Williams and Miss Biddix were our homeroom teachers .
