“PHEC Q55 FRG June 2, 1953 Dear Devue, My vacation, which I spent at home, has just ended and I thought you might like to know what our old classmates are doing. Barbara Allison is now in the WAVES. She is a First Lieutenant. I guess you remember her telling us that she was going to join, but we dldn't think much about it. You know, we always thought Millie Banks would be a Mayoress, but she surprised us and is now working for The Bell Telephone Company. I don't think you will be shocked to hear this, but Elizabeth Grindstaff is happily married and has a family of two. We always did think she would be the first of our class to marry. I also heard that Doris Silver was a school teacher in Baltimore, Maryland. Her students just don't know how lucky they are If you ever happen to go to Philadelphia, go to see Doris Davis. She is doing well in her Beauty Shop there. Have you not seen Edward Carver's name in the papers recently? You know, he used to play Basketball, but he is now playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dan Early is singing with Vaughn Monroe's band. Vaughn just stepped out of his career as a singer when he heard Dan's voice. Maybe you have heard about Juanita White. She is a Stewardess on the Pan American Airlines. You might see her on one of your trips. I hear that Eddie Lackey is a famous artist here in New York. I never can get near any of his paintings when I visit the museum. There are so many poeple crowded around his paintings. Sam Porter is going to North Carolina State College studying to be an Electrical Engineer. I know he will be a success. You remember Herbert Jenkins, don't you? He used to drive a bus, but he is driving for Johnson Motor Lines now. Lucille Grindstaff was always the brains of our class. She is a private secretary at Clear-Water Finishing Co. Bobby Lytle is part owner of a large cattle farm in the West. He has gone far since I last saw him. Let me tell you about William Bradley. He is driving for the Queen City Coach Company. He has the route from Asheville to Salisbury, North Carolina. Clifford Bartlett never had very much to say to anybody. He is working for the Silver Fleet Transfer Company, so when he goes on long trips he isn't bothered with so many people. I also heard that J. L. Lowery owns a big farm out in the country. Wonder how he takes care of it all by himself? Dorothy Cooke is teaching Latin at Boyden High School in Salisbury, North Carolina. She always was good on that subject. They say that Mabel Tabor is going to be a nurse. She has chosen the profession best suited her. Clara Kelly is a typist in a big Business Firm in Washington, D. C. She is making good, I know. Have you heard about Ruby Lee Coates? She married a lawyer in Asheville, North Carolina and now owns several houses. Elsie Johnson is now sole owner of the Trading Post. She knew more about it than the Manager, so he turned the whole business over to her. How do you like Puerto Rica? I know being manager of Beacon Manufacturing Comp- any there keeps you busy. I suppose you heard about my success as an Inter- ior Decorator. I have advanced quite rapidly. Love, x1L,f 1
