Your ODU Alumni Association 2 3 A New President Al Rollins came to ODU from the hills of Vermont in the summer of 1976 bringing with him a strong Yankee determination to do well. He has acted boldly and efficiently and has distinguished himself and the university. He is no stranger now, and many count themselves as friends of the president. . . . and new prestige for ODU The Big Blue, now at home in Division I. continued to be a force to be reckoned with. During Homecoming 78 an enthusiastic crowd watched ODU topple archrival William Mary by one point while a regional television audience watched the Monarchs on NBC-TV. The Lady Monarchs played well also, and captured NWIT honors. Carter was popular among 00U student who put many hours into his campaign effort. Chuck Robb was at ease and welcome on the ODU campus during his many campaign visits. ODU had a vested interest in the passage of the 1977 bond package: a $6.1 million life sciences building. Governor Mills Godwin, in the eleventh hour of his administration came to ODU to promote the bonds which were later approved by the voters. and their observers Former CIA director William Colby tantalized his ODU audience with tales of cloaks and daggers. Timothy Leary, former LSD guru, told students his new trip was space migration. William Kunstler warned students against the dangers of censorship at a time when Norfolk was weighing the effects of new pornography laws. Rain or Shine . . .
