Delta Phi Omega is a local honorary society which aspires to be a stepping stone to Phi Beta Kappa. This local society was recently organized, but it is expected to expand along with our fast-growing Norfolk college. The requirements for membership include at least seventy-five semester hours of college work (with ot least forty-five semester hours at the local college), a scholastic average of 2.5 or better, and a clear record. All of the present members of Delta Phi Omega are charter members. Most of the original (chorter) members graduated in 1959, and the group remaining ot the college is small. However, a sizable number is expected to be initiated into the organization in the near future. 100 Betty Hossell—President PHI THETA KAPPA Phi Theto Kappo is the national honorary society for the junior college. It wos originated in 1900 in Columbio, Missouri, under the name of Kappo Phi Omicron. In 1925 chapters were granted to colleges outside of the state of Missouri until it grew to be recognized by the American Association of Junior Colleges. Phi Theto Kappa has expanded to such on extent that at the present time there ore one hundred and fourteen active chapters in the United States. Our local chapter wos founded on the campus in May 1950. 101 - Mrs. Martha Clarke Fred Sowycr Tom Crcdlc Mr. Reed Chapter President Project Choirmon Advisor ALPHA KAPPA PSI 1st row: Mr. Arthur Belote, Dr. John Tabb, Bob Beole, Vice-President, Gerald Rubinger, Treasurer, Phil Ryder, Secretary, Fred Sawyer, President. 2nd row: Horry Sandridge, Jose Gor-bco, Don Korte, Williom Sayers, Williom Foster, Whitney Chomberloin, Charles Sawyer. 3rd row: Fronk Sawyer, Jock Kerr, Joe Vestal, Bob Burke, George Ferebee, Arnold Miller. 4 h row: Elwood Reid, Aloys Fohl, Edward Dozier, Mike Abbott, Roger McLoughlin, William Spruill. It has always existed as a campus newspaper. However, this year the High Hat became something more than just a newspaper. In February of I960, the first issue of the High Hat as a newsmagazine was presented to the student body. The reaction to this change was immediate and enthusiastic.
