FOREWORD As memories fade into the background and each William and Mary student goes his own way, it is the hope of the 1958 Chieftain staff that these pages will recall old friends and faces. Kaufman. He has unselfishly devoted his valuable time and talents to the things which make this community a better place for us all. The Boy Scouts, the American Red Cross, the Community Fund, the Norfolk General Hospital, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority all have benefited from his work for them. Much of the growth and improvement of the College of William and Mary in Norfolk has resulted from his dreams and aspirations. Currently Mr. Kaufman is president of our Advisory Board and Chairman of the Educational Foundation. Kaufman THE WALK ADMINISTRATION BUILDING OUR SCIENCE BUILDING BUSINESS BUILDING CAMPUS Eleanor Roosevelt brought the world situation to the attention of the student body and challenged them to be active thinking citizens. The World's Ten Greatest Thinkers was the title of the interesting talk given by Dr. Will Durant. Russia came to life on W illiam The December Convocation captured the season Mary's Campus when Mildred Alex- spirit as the student body joined the Condert Choir ander described her varied personal in Christmas Carols, experiences there. CONVOCA TIONS In February, the second semester was inaugurated with an informative address on SAC LA NT by Commander S. S. Stephenson. In May our first HONORS Convocation introduced us to the Campus celebrities of the Academic and Athletic circles. The Opera Workshop added the musical spice with excerpts from the Broadway production MOklahoma . A new school year begins with registration of incoming students and . . . . . . a wonderful school year ends as Robert Moore leads the Graduating class with a 2.86 accumulative average. The Student Senate, governing body of the College, was headed by John Wynne. Its main purpose is to serve as a medium between the Administration and the Student Body and to share with the Administration the responsibility of student problems. The Senate ably supervised all student elections, published the student directory, sponsored the Spring Dance, and made many revisions to our Constitution. Senate Member, Noel Kenyon, looks on as William and Mary students register and vote for next year's student government officers. Skip, Don and John count ballots after the students voted for Homecoming Queen The Student Directory, edited by Don Wirt and sponsored by the Senate is presented to Mr. Webb HONOR COUNCIL Composed of eight members and four alternates, the 1957-58 William Mary Honor Council was headed by Harold McGee. To investigate and act on any honor or rule infraction which may occur during the school term is the Council’s primary purpose. Highlight of the year was our Mother-Daughter Banquet at which Janice received Scholarship ring with average of 2.88 and Ann Wilson was awarded the bracelet for Most Valuable Member.
