STUDENT SENATE OFFICERS The Student Senate, the governing body of the college, was organized in 1930. Since then it has shared with the administration the responsibility of student problems and has acted as an intermediary between the administration and the student body. Under the sponsorship of Dr. Pliska, the Student Senate has accomplished several major projects this year. Among them were the selling of second hand books for student convenience, the compiling and distribution of student directories, furnishing of guides for the Leonardo De Vinci exhibit, the supervising of all student elections, improving of the constitution, the planning for providing the college with on Alma Matter, and the co-sponsoring of the Spring Coronation Dance with the Inter-Fraternal Council. The Student Senate belongs to the students of the college. They elect its members and it is their ideas and support which make it a success. RAY HOWELL Optician 222 West Bute Street Opposite Wainwright Building MA2-6167 Effective since the founding of the College of William and Mary in Norfolk, the Honor System operates under the pledged support of every student officially enrolled in the college. This system provides for an eight-man jury (four men and four women), four alternates (two men and two women), and a freshman representative. This year the Council not only concerned itself with conducting trials but it attempted to make the student body more aware of the functioning of the Honor System; such means were incorporated as sending letters to the faculty requesting their help in further explaining and reminding the students of their responsibility to such a system, the distributing of cards to individuals and the posting of signs in each classroom with the inscription “My Honor Is My Life. The Honor Council is under the sponsorship of Mr. G. W. Whitehurst. Ted Hobson posts on Honor Code reminder with the help of Beverly Baxter and the approval of Jim Coppelletti. Betty Ann Carroll and Sonny Rowell review data concerning a trial. PHI THETA KAPPA The Eta Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was formed in May of 1950 with seven charter members. Membership is based on a scholastic average which is 3.0 for a freshman and 2.5 for sophomores. The activities of the club include a bimonthly business meeting and two formal initiations each year. Eta Pi presents a trophy for the best term paper written each year; this year the club has planned to present a plaque for the future group to use. Eta Pi wants to recognize the juniors and seniors also; however, since Phi Theta Kappa is concerned only with a junior college, no provision is made for active mem-bershhip for higher class men. This year Eta Pi plans to make juniors and seniors with a culumative average of 2.25 associate members. Associate members cannot vote or hold office, but they can wear the Phi Theta pin. lit ROW: James Hall, Treasurer,- Dr. John Tobb, Sponsor,- Billie Boll, President; Naomi Lowhorne, Secretary; John Wikoff, Vice President. 2nd ROW: Mrs. Ann Jeffers, Louise Disosway, Mrs. Fern Harris, Penny Johnston, Mary Nolley, Mrs. Evelyn Arledge, Norma Taylor, Jackie Anderson, Mrs. Grace Biggs. 3rd ROW: James Burket, Oscar Self, Morris Hill, George Constant, Milton Herring, James Perry.
