It ranges from the pop tests on blue Mondays to bright red Fridays, with pep assemblies and football games, The '67 Torchlight has captured these moods of the colorful events of this mem- orable year. Students were kept busy with academic preparation for the future. Discovering new friendships and cheering weeks. However, school activities lingered on the fringes of learning, infiltrating and becoming a part of education. The Journalism staff proudly presents for your pleasure The Torchlight Colors ing Book. He knows that he lives in a world of constant change, and in order to keep up with change and be a successful citizen, he must prepare himself now. To help the student prepare himself, Okmulgee High offers many courses: academic courses to prepare the student for professions, and vocational courses to aid the student who plans a career in business and industry. 5omorrow's Headers -TTB c,.,.4 ' L Q Aa, 'Ns'-5,5 ., , -.MM1 .5 I Each student should graduate with full knowledge of the everyday trials of life as Well as the challenges of the future. A background of basic education, strong determination, courage, and an inquiring mind are mandatory to do this. As one passes from door to door peering in at students busy studying and listening to instructors, the meaning of education is ever more evident. School is preparation for tomorrow. School gives responsibility to those students who are mature enough to shoulder the Weight of learning. 5He Eively Gnes f--'-- W-LS 4: N, .f . , , A ,,,,- N Sei 5642 Pace V1 E jx Days at Okmulgee High School are busy. Never before in our school days have we been exposed to such a hurried routine. The rushing in the halls between classes, the last minute cramming for tests, the everyday hustle-bustle of school life becomes an accepted Way of living to the Okmulgee teenager. ew.. 7 -f -.-.. Sw f- -wig 't .. . . ...W . ik. j , v Ffa-1-K ' However, learning is not all derived from books and teachers. We learn about responsibility, character, and about how different people react to different situa- tions. Sometimes we are happy, some- times We are sadg but all the time We are exposing ourselvs to some of the problems that will confront us in the future. I3 The students of Okmulgee High School enjoy and participate in many different school activities. These activities provide a time and place for students to get to know each other better and learn the spirit of co-operation through team- work in sports, music, debate, or any other school activity. It is the' united effort that achieves the ultimate goal rather than the accomplishment of any one individual. These activities help to create a stronger school spirit. For example, a loud united pep club inspires the team to work more successfully which causes the pep club to cheer even louder. Contrast Motivates Student fife James R. At the first of the school term, one member is selected from each advi- sory to be a member of the council. Each member takes an active part in helping to regulate school activities. The president leads the student body in the flag salute and the vice-president reads a passage f ro m the Bible at the start of each school day. This past year Okmulgee High School was h o s t to the State Student Council Convention, held November 17, 18, and 19. A good club demands much work, time, energy and expense, which these girls readily accept as they volunteer their services. They are truly loyal to Okmulgee High School because they par- ticipate consistently in all school activ- ities, lending the spirit of loyalty and enthusiasm to all who attend. Working on assemblies and posters, and long practices of the Drill Team are also a part of their responsibilities. The vivacious exuberance we have all wit- nessed at the games is the result of the efforts these young ladies have given to this organization. We, as sen- iors, will receive diplomas and walk out to meet the future. We will face it with the knowledge we have gained during our past six years at Okmulgee High School. These past years have given us many memories. Since those first butterflies when we entered the seventh grade, we have reap- ed the fruits of school: the knowledge and fun, the friends and the disappoint- ments. Our last three years were filled with excitement: the victories in foot- ball, statebound in basketball, homecom- ing, the banquet and the prom. The previous class passed the Torch to us. We have carried it with pride and honor. Knowing this, we can leave with heads held high. We can pass the Torch to the Class of '68, confident in the know- ledge that they will carry it in the same tradition. October's junior float, An Occurence in Okmulgeef' won a prize for workman- ship, and started the juniors on a path of successes.
