were eye witnesses to the organiza- tion of a course of study, while a physical plant grew up around them. They are pioneers on another educa- tional frontier. ln the living memory of men and women who do not consider them- selves old, events identical in many ways took place on the campus of the school chosen to guide the formative years of the Ethiopian college. Oklahoma ASZNI college, one of the youngest land grant institutions in the nation, had its natal problems be- ginning in l89l. Oklahoma was young then, too, beset with uncertainty, and faced with a series of crises that had to be endured before it could claim ma- turity. The chance of destiny put the col- lege in the Stillwater valley, a result of a political trade during the hrst Territorial legislative session in 1890, but determination kept it there against odds that at times seemed in- surmountable.
