The people of Stillwater, who had little money to spare, bonded themselves for 510,000 they did not have to help finance the eonstruetion of a eollege building at some future date. It is not surprising that one fac- ulty member recorded this reflection : Can you think of a college with no studentseeethev were all preps then - eethree faculty members, and no col- lege buildings in which to hold classes, and at the same time imagine yourself attending college? The Congregational church was the first place of meeting, and most all students, transferred from public schools, studied the same courses they were taking before transfer. it All the classes had to recite in one room, and even these accommoda- tions Were often changed. Moving from place to place it was impossible to care for equipment, and inexpedi- ent to provide for it in any quantity.
