Y five o'cloek the college, its students and faculty members show signs of wear. It takes many hours for the physical plant to be Cleaned up and prepared for the next day, but it takes the students only a few minutes. ,leans are jammed into Closets and out come the suits and the new skirts and sweaters. By dinner time the student body looks clean and refreshed. Anything ean happen during dinner. Sorority girls or fraternity men may burst into the dining room and put on a five- minute skit designed to get your vote for their candidate. 'llhere may not be too mueh point to the songs and the jokes in the skits but they are entertaining and they brighten up the meal. After the dessert is served the group may sing a song. Soft seats in the liv- ing room near the TV set come on a first- eome-first-served basis and usually the dining room empties in a hurry after dinner. The talk at this time of day is usually Concen- trated on Who is dating Whom tonight and where they are going. There are usually a few comments about the people some have dates with. Some are made jokinglysothers with a little bit of envy. But the night looks bright-eeeelasses, well, they seem a long way off at this time of day. Although they are al- ready sprueed up and looking good, the average college student Will return to the room and look at the mirror before taking off for a date. Hair combed, lipstick on straight, clothes neat and clean. livery- thingls line.

What are the intangibles a stu- dent gets out of four years at ASLXIP Char- aeter development, ability to understand oth- ers and get along with them, working with others for a Common goale these are just some of the things a student learns without the aid of a professor. And they are impor- tant. A boy and a girl sitting over a eup of eoiifee that neither of them really wanted can benefit as mueh from the conversation they have as they would from a three-hour col- lege eourse. Nlembers of the Student l'nion activities board-Wall with different interests and from varying baekgroundsework to- gether for the good of 9,000 Aggies. The ability to work together, to understand what the person sitting across from you really means and wants is a major goal of a college education.
