Hi Illustrations designed to catch and hold the eye of the reader and to stimulate interest in a particular product are found in most newspapers, magazines and other publications. These draw- ings are prepared by commercial artists. Artistic ability is an important qualification for work in the field of commercial art, but training in its techniques is most essential. The course in commercial art and advertising at Tech is designed to equip the student with a general knowledge of and applied skill in the field sufficient for successful employment and future ad- vancement in advertising concerns, department stores, dis- play studios and screen process printing firms.

Students have the pride of seeing their best art work exhibited in the class- room, providing both recognition and incentive. As in all Tech courses, class- « work is the incorporation of technical - study and practical experience. Graphic arts procedures, part of commercial art study, includes experience with various reproduction mediums such as silk screen printing as practiced by Clarence Tyler and Paul Champie in the related class offered by the department. More facilities to practice the tech- niques of airbrush artistry are avail- able with desks to accommodate four students at one time. Left to right are Richard Miller, Sue Snider, Skip Rowell and instructor Gary Myers.
