May you dedicate yourselves to making this school one to be remembered by each and everyone of you, and a school worthy of the efforts of farsighted statesmen and educators who have given forty-two years of untiring effort in the development of a military school of which, you and Oklahoma may be proud. The year 196C - 1961 has been a difficult one for the world and,as a whole, for Oklahoma Military Academy. You, as the Corps of Cadets, have not escaped your trials. Changes, un- certainies, and necessary readjustments have been disrupting factors, but you have adapted yourselves in admirable fashion. You have accepted your responsibilities and given your best efforts to prepare yourselves for whatever the future may hold Sincerely yours, HOWARD H. HART, DEAN col. USAR, Ret. Oklahoma Military Academy junior college basket- ball toughened the schedule by adding home-and-home games with Coffeyville Junior College and Arkansas City Junior College. both high ranging members of the Kansas Junior College conference, and single games with Oklahoma State and Oklahoma City university freshman teams to an already tough Oklahoma Junior College conference schedule. The Cadets. under Cap- tain Jerry Evans. have a 7-15 season record as this page goes to press: one regular game and the Region II tournament remain. Stand-out point makers in ,61 were Ken Willis. 18.11. and Phillip Bell 13.3, but the starting five. Willis. Bell. Earl Clark, Virgil Best and David Jeffs, are to be commended for fine play against some of the outstanding teams of the area. Brightest spot in the high school athletic picture, with track and field meets and the baseball season yet 's 'I 3 Seawm ua Wevaew to come, is the wrestling results obtained by Captain Don Epperson. in his second year with the grapplers. For the second consecutive year OMA will have a wrestler in the state finalsg Pete Cornell. a sophomore, will wrestle at 122 pounds. He has lost four of eleven matches during the season. Robert Barkeen, wrestling as heavyweight or 187 pounds, carries a 10-2 record. but Barkeen was eliminated in the regional qualifying tournament., He is a junior. Both football and basketball went through dis- astrous seasonsg 1-9 for football and O-7 for basket- ball can be accounted for by scheduling problems brought on by OMA entry into the Oklahoma High School Athletic Association. However, action taken by the Association in re-aligning the qualifying dis- tricts should go a long way to relieving the Academy of matches with teams far out of our class in resources.
