Ctusroa QUENTIN SMITH, President Oklahoma City University 7a Me of 7746: We are especially proud of the class of 1946. Your col- lege years were made hard by four years of the worst war in history. Many of you had to leave your studies and join the armed forces in defense of our American way of -life, others of you saw friends and relatives go, some never to re- turn. You met abnormal pressure for time for outside work to help win the war. You faced bravely the threat to civil- ization and distracting news from the war zones. You were robbed of normal campus life, but you fought a good fightg you have kept the faith, you have finished the course, you have earned a diploma from Qklahoma City University. One of the most valuable lessons you learned during your college days was that you must Hghr to keep the faith, you must keep the faith to finish the course, you mlISt finish the course to win the crown. Many things learned in college may be forgotten without very great loss, but you will suffer irretrievable loss if you forget that you will always have to fight to keep the faith. Keep faith in God, without which man cannot live in a real sense of security, strive happily, live nobly, achieve ulti- mately. Keep faith in yourself, without which you cannot hope to succeed. You will never do that which you do not believe you can do. Others may rob you of your job, your money, your home and your friends, but you alone can destroy your faith in yourself. Keep faith in your fellowman. Such confidence is re- quired for cooperation in any enterprise. Society is built 011 -gm ri V. ff' L ifkii Y 'wah -9 mutual trust. If you will avoid trying to fit all persons into the same behavior pattern, you will have fewer disappoint- ments in people. Keep faith in your enterprise. Believe in what you are doing and expect to succeed. Plan all your work and then work your plan daily. If you do not keep up, you are not likely to catch up. The world is moving so swiftly that you will have to run fast to stay where you are. If you achieve nobility and renown and bring honor to yourself and your Alma Mater, you must be willing 'to pray like a saint, live like a hermit, work like a horse and fight like a demon. We congratulate you upon your achievement, and remind you that achievement always makes failure more conspicuous and disappointing. You are going out into a world with beckoning hands for leaders to take the place of millions who fell in defense of high civilization. Workers are needed in every field of service to rebuild a war-wrecked World, to build a better world, a better civilization on a new pattern of greater dimensions. Class of '46, you have made an indelible impression upon the campus. We will miss you, but you go with our prayers that your cherished ambitions may be realized, by divine guidance, true faith, great heart and willing hands. We shall hope to. see you on the campus from time to time, inspiring, instructing and encouraging those who take your place. Very cordially yours, 1 I rf Y.i.'3'ffi?'iV'fi 'QQ fi'ti 'gi,Q2'N..
