Comedy, folk operas performed together The OCC Music Department presented two one-act operas in Judd Theatre March 29-30. The Old Maid and The Thief, by Gian-Carlo Menotti, described the exploits of two spinsters trying to hang on to a male visitor they mistook for a thief. Down in the Valley by Kurt Weill, with lyrics by Arnold Sungaard, was the story of a condemned man who had to see his girl before he died. This opera used traditional American folk song. Senate llctiuifieo Senate sponsors movies, banquets OCC's Student Senate provided periodic entertainment for the students it served. Early in the year, Senate sponsored such activities as watermelon and sundae parties. Movies, at date-encouraging prices, including The Great Gatsby, Air- port 77, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, were shown in Hardeman Auditorium with new projector equipment. The Second Annual Gong Show gave would-be performers a chance to show their stuff. CHRISTMAS Banquet head table includes Mike Webb, Christie Vincent, Shari Watkins and Bruce Wood. GONG Show participants try a country act on the judges.
