Cross Country team wins for sixth year The OCC Cross Country finished another successful season by win- ning the OCC Invitational and the District 9 Championship for the sixth straight year. Head coach Randy Heath then led his squad to a 12th place finish in the NAIA Cham- pionships in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Tom Story became the first two- time All-American and only the se- cond runner to earn the honor in OCC history. Story finished the Na- tional Championships with a 23rd place finish out of a field of 384 run- ners. Mike Herndon barely missed All-American honors as he finished in 29th place, followed by Dave Cooper, 100th. Tim Isbell placed 104th, followed by Melvin Gower, 157th. Eagles take 4-game tour through Hawaii The OCC Eagle Basketball team reaffirmed their status as a top power among NAIA schools as they breezed through the season with a 27-7 record. Head Coach Jerry J obe led the Eagles to the first Southern Athletic Conference Championship and through the first two rounds of the District 9 playoffs before drop- ping a three-point decision to the number one team in the nation. The Eagles dazzled fans as far away as Hawaii as they swept a 4-game tour in the Islands. Kevin Jones and De- wayne Williams paced the Eagles, and both were named to the SAC All-Conference team. Jones also won the Most Valuable Player for OCC, and Jan Hadly was voted recipient of the Phys Holgren Award. EAGLES make a scramble for the ball as a confused opponent watches.
