Under a new intramural set-up-calling for a a sport for every Bison -the boys and girls were combined under the same council, which met monthly to furnish referees, make schedules, hear protests and revise rules. Two leagues-the Green and Gold-were formed in club play to enable more participation. , The Orians, led by Lonnie Eye, copped the singles and doubles titles in tall tennis but the Yathians won the boys' singles as Jorge Padron set the pace and also the mixed doubles, taken by Earlene Barton and James Lackey. Again led by Lonnie Eye, the outstanding field hockey player of the season, the Orian Green won the club field hockey title. Their winning efforts were matched as the Emethean Greens and Ernethean Golds met in a family feud for the flag football title. The Greens won, 6-0. Bob Tilley set the pace for the Emetheans in ping-pong by lead- ing the way to the boys' singles and doubles titles. The Kardians, led by Jane Stanbrough, were strong in this sport, copping the girls' doubles title and mixed doubles event. The Hatharean cage team went undefeated in winning the girls' basketball title. The Emethean Greens won the men's title and trounced the Tiers, independent titlists, for the grand championship. The Kardian girls took the annual swimming meet in Memorial pool. In free throws, Lonnie Eye was the whole show, as she sank 33 of 50 attempts to give the Orians another title. Tut Gamble, of the brother Emelheans, sank 79 of IOO for the men's laurels. With tabulations counted only in tennis, football, ping-pong and free-throws, intramural manager Bill East announced that l79 boys had participated in at least one of the four sports. Football and basketball were top choices, with over IOO boys each. RUSH Joan Burnidge and Dot Brown, table tennis aces for the Halhareans, prepare to meet the ball.
