We strived for perfec- tion, but we knew before we lifted the cover of the first completed book that mistakes were inevitable. We ask that you consider the limitations of this age of shortages and rationing and be lenient in your judgment of us. We have endeavored to make this yearbook a pictorial record of the year at Oklahoma Baptist University. It has not been our intention to play a favorite, but rather we have attempted to give credit where credit was due, and we hope that in this all-important matter, we have suc- ceeded. If you find this a satisfying, amusing, reminescient record which is truly typical of your life at O. B. U. in the year 1944-45, then all our efforts, our Worries, our expended energies have been rewarded. On looking back, the problems which seemed so insurmountable and the difficulties which harrassed and annoyed us in the editing of this book recede into the background and become far less important than the memory of that spirit of cooperation and goodwill which the vast ma- jority of you have exhibited toward us. Unless you have experienced the tedious situations which we were constantly facing, you can never know how welcome and encouraging are people who perform their small tasks and assignments without questioning and with willingness. It is the vast majority, the average student, who makes a yearbook possible, and it is to you we give our sincerest thanks. It is an organization for English majors, and its members are chosen on a strict basis of scholarship and achieve- ment in the English field. The local chapter is the Chi Delta. The meetings of the Sigma Tau Delta are interesting and varied. The first program of the year was given by Dr. Snuggs, who reviewed Western Star by Walt Whitman, and the programs which followed in- cluded those by the members who presented original compositions, made book reviews, discussed the literature of a specific era, and outlined the problems of the writers of today. This organization is for the purpose of encouraging literary writing among English students as well as to promote studies in literature. FIRST BT. UFFICI FHDNE 2-4555 DKLAHDMA CITY 2, DKLAHDMA May 1, 1945 To the '45 Bisons: Congratulations to a wartime student body on the completion of an un- usual year in Bison history. In the midst of calamity and uncertainty you have maintained the high standards of O. B. U. service and accom- plishment. Yours has not been an easy task, but you have faced it and completed it in a remarkable way. And Oklahoma Baptists are proud of you! No doubt you have questioned the wisdom of your remaining in school in times like these. Perhaps you have wondered if you should not get a job in some war industry. Many times you probably have wished to feel more directly connected with the war effort. Your place now may seem unimportant. Your life may be absolutely lacking in drama or excitement. But remember that although the first few bricks laid in a foundation are never very spectacular, they are the most important part of the whole building. When your brother and sweetheart and former classmate return home, they will want to step from the shaky, quivering footing of a battle- ground onto the strong, firm, and sure foundation of a peaceful life. It is up to you to build that foundation of a peaceful life. It is up to you to build that foundation, and to build it so strong that from it their hopes, dreams plans, and ideals can never tumble. Brick by brick you must build it, slowly but surely-with faith, love, patience, consecration, in- telligence, courage, wisdom, temperance, and broadmindedness. Students and faculty of O. B. U., you are these bricklayers, and we are watching your building with pride. Sincerely yours, Andrew Poifer Andrew Potter Executive Secretary Find the Bisons At Campus Drug 2311 N.
