Most of us speak two languages and a few use even more . Some of us are just learning English and others are working at Japanese . Our conversation is often a combination of two or three languages and somehow it usually works. We communicate. We found out long ago that ideas and friendships aren ' t limited by language or nationality or race. f . . . and we ' ve discovered that God - every bit as multi-national as we have become - loves us as we are . And a little of God rubs off on a little of each of us . 4 And they sang a new song Thou hast redeemed us out of every kindred, and tongue , and people , and nation . . . Revelation 5:9 DEDICATION In a school where teachers and students are often here today and gone tomorrow, Miss Vv ' itte has been the exception. Now completing her seventh year at OCS, Miss VVitte has faithfully served God and OCS in the primary grades. She is remembered by many of her former students as the one who first gave them the key to reading. To others she is the one who picked them up for Sunday School week after week. It is to her that we dedicate the ' 77 CITADEL, with special thanks for her faithfulness and concern. 1 I HIGH SCHOOL J( t Cki goknC. xo±±£.n. -J £.vLn jLcicn c rfkLxa juzuq£.n w —f siko J.ui.tux zf ana.u -) a(. jcLixiki —f azuua —l Li.h.aba CLASS OF ' 77 what a busy year . . . elections, senior trip, festival, money-making projects, tests, graduation (at last!) . . . what an imaginative, creative, intelligent, talented, gifted, artistic, handsome and or gorgeous, extroverted, active, outstanding, brilliant - bunch of clowns! ... a class and a year not to be forgotten. 13 :::A {a±aJniti.u J iuan Siiij ::A aijox VxEXLs. cl ak amuxa J.ant£.i. :::Afich.oLi. I ' d say we are today a community of people - learning, living, and showing concern. But what shall we be? I feel that we have much potential for significant growth. What we become depends very much upon what we are , especially what we are on the inside. Significant outward growth depends upon quality inward growth. Jesus summed it up well: 1 am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in Me and I in him bears much fruit. The varsity girls volleyball team ... an outstanding team of young ladies. Our main goal was not just to win , but rather to develop the mind , body, and spirit as well. The improvement of each player was exciting to watch. We had twelve son-of-independent players at the beginning. As time went on, each player learned to rely on team mates. Our squad became one body . They were then ready for the Far Eastern Volleyball Tournament. They had some tough competition, which just made them fight harder. We were, in the end, defeated, and the tears of us all flowed. But the love, understanding, and togetherness of this team will never die. Congratulations, ladies, for a job well done! - Mrs. Bateman, Coach 85 i5p- J hm J. V. Last year, the team did not win a game but gained valuable experience which made them a winning team this year. At the end of regular season play, the Crusaders were tied for first place with the Kubasaki Falcons. Although the Crusaders were defeated in a post-sea- son play-off, the 1976 varsity volley- ball team proved they were winners. 89 CRUSADERS II Those guys are too good to be called J. V. ! Over and over again I heard those words from coaches and players of varsity teams. And it was true. This year, the Crusaders II team, as we were called in the League, played a fine season ' s worth of volleyball against the same teams our varsity played. And we won more than we lost ! A highlight of the season was when we bombed the Kubasaki Falcons in our own gym. Throughout the season I saw my role more as a yeller than as a real coach, but it was a challenging and rewarding experience to work with this top-notch squad . -Mr. J BACK ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Leon SMnzato , Ken Long, Hajime Kifer, Mr. J. front ROW. In following games, the Crusaders were troubled by injuries and poor shooting. They finished up the season with victory over the Christ the King Lancers . The Crusaders then traveled to Tokyo to panicipaie in the Far East Basketball Tourney with 19 other area schools. BACK ROVs ' : Chung Hou Yam, Danny Wilkins, Kevin Flach, Jim Nichols, Robert Pogue. Most players were young in the division and look forward to playing another year or two as sopho- mores. Valuable experience was gained and all improved, which made it a prof- itable season. You will see some of these players on junior and varsity teams in the years ahead. Good work, boys. Coached by Gary Plymale and Alan Shelton, the team worked hard to gain skills and get in shape. As captain, Randy Kawasaki, offered leadership and an example of dedication to the players. With a goal of unified team effort, coupled with all-out hustle, the team was assured the best season ever.
