Text from Pages 1 - 132 of the 1971 volume:

' V f ' .vy, lei ' 71 Okinawa christan school A school is only as good as the people in charge make it. We have seen many improvements made this school year. The man behind all these projects has been Mr. Kaneshiro, working tirelessly for the students of Okinawa Christian School. I ' m sure I ' m not alone when I say that your efforts v ill not soon be forgotten, therefore we would like to dedicate this year ' s Citadel to you, Mr. Kaneshiro. students of ocs i dedication dedication 2 faculty and staff 5 campus life 13 who ' s iftlio 53 organ! rations 65 jr. high; basis engllsh 75 elementary 89 adverti sing 105 Okinawa Christian School is dedicated to the task of educating the whole being-physical, mental, and spiritual. In order to accomplish this seemingly impossible task, God, in His wisdom, has raised up this school made up of students, teachers, staff, parents. Board members, and admin- istrators who are subject to human frailties. Throughout this school year, we have seen much progress in our school. Some have found the Lord here. Others have grown spiritually. Most have achieved varying degrees of academic attainment. Others have failed or we have failed them. But God has dealt with us as humans not machines. We face success and failure throughout life. Let us remember that true education is to take what we have learned, whether through success or failure, and to apply these truths in living. We realize that God has blessed us abundantly. We trust that this edition of the Citadel will help you recall the lessons you have learned during the past school year. It has been a real privilege and a blessed pleasure in serving as your administrator. May the Lord continue to bless you. - i mJ J inA-oJu-c- michael s. kaneshiro principal eugene shockley assistant principal As the Talmud says, Every human being is equal in worth to the whole world. Know that for your sake the world was created. Every human being is thus something unique, a personality. As the ancient saying puts it, each man is coined for himself. VJe at Okinawa Christian School have confidence not only in the good and noble but in all men be- cause they carry within them a soul. This is the most that can be said about the value of man; no greater nobility can be attributed to him. That man was created in the image of God means, then, that the highest may be demanded of him. The ethical task is the task of all men; it is the field in which each man may possess genius. The Bible gives this doctrine classical expression: Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy (Lev. 19:2). That is the highest ideal that can be put before man: to become more and more like God. This great ideal has been chosen by our school as the basic foundation for all our educational hopes and goals for each of you. May God grant success to this noble ambition both now and as you live out this goal. sincerel y. xi2 r 2 administration The faculty provides the key to education and success. I, Chuck Sligh, in order to form a more perfect school, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common offense do hereby will my tremendous ability to tell jokes to Mr. Penner. My big mouth I give to Evelyn Justiniano. 1 give my long curly hair to Mr. Parr and my fantastic height and great basketball playing ability I give to Robert Melecio. My ability to play the guitar and my beautiful soft romantic voice I give to someone who really needs it, Lottie Quisenberry. Lastly I will my body to be hanged from a from a tree in the 0. C S. garden until I rot. I, Marie Cochran, being of ?? sound mind and healthy body do hereby leave to all my underclassmen the memory of the great years I spent with each and every one of you. To joise Chiu, I bequeath my brain, hoping that she will use it wisely, to Eriinda I leave my ability to meet my appoint- ments on time, that is, if she ' s on time to read this, and last but not least, I leave my school uniform to the school and I wish for it to be placed in a glass case so that the future students of O.CS. will know that I ' ve been to this school. I, Barbara Velasco, in my old age of 18, hereby write my last will before I depart from this school. My condition is getting worse every day and my mind isn ' t as clear as it used to be. So while I still have some strength left in me, I, Barbara, do hereby leave to Lance Tarkington my beautiful and neat handwriting, hoping that it ' ll keep him out of trou- ble with the teachers. I give my ability to play volleyball to Sandra ?eals, who could use a little help, on second thought, a lot of help. I leave my secretarial position to Nelly Navarro who is a good friend of mine, and my crackling singing voice I will leave in the good hands of Irene Idian who likes to sing a lot. Irene, maybe with my voice people who hear you sing won ' t throw rotten eggs and tomatoes at you anymore. I, Nancy Chiu, do hereby leave thomas (Who ' s Thomas?) in the loving care of my sister Joise. My car along with my skilled driving I leave to Peter Choi. Maybe then he will be able to miss detention hall. I, Ruth Quisenberry, leave my morning blues and my afternoon naps to Judy Woods. To all the Junior girls I leave my long skirts. May they follow in my footstepes. I, Glen Gantzer, leave my gorgeous long blond hair to Peter King who might not look good in my gorgeous blond hair but it might cover his head a little more itian his crew cut. To Klarita I leave my baby blue eyes since she admires Lance ' s so much. Last I leave the wig I got in Taiwan to our beloved Mr. Parr. I, Anthony Mercado, do hereby leave my guitar to Irene Idian. Maybe some of my incredible talent will rub off on her. I leave my fantastic drawings to Mary Yam. Last of all I leave my volumous voice to Mike Nakamura.
