The National Honor Society was constantly active in both school and community related projects this year. Such projects included: instructions at the Parent Teacher Conferences, answering phones at a WKAR fund drive, and assisting the 4-H Club with the handicapped from Beekman Center. Math and Chemistry tutors were available twice a week after school for students’ aid. After co-sponsoring a Chili Dinner with the Okemos Kiwanis Club, the student government presented a basketball signed by the 1979-80 Capital Circuit Basketball Champs to whomever sold the most tickets. To no one's surprise, our own Mark ‘The Nark' Coulter conquered the prize (and no doubt the chili, too!) Congratulations Mark!

Becky Ellis, nd Scott Warnock. This year’s Quiz Bowl Team added to an already impressive record by winning the championship again. This leaves Okemos with a score-board of three wins and one runner-up position in the past four years that the program has been aired. Quiz Bowl questions may cover anything from Science and sports. Usually a team has to win three games to enter the playoffs, but due to the lack of time, Okemos only had to win two games. WKAR-TV provided Okemos an excellent opportunity to participate in the state competition, held for the first time in Marquette, MI; the winners of their regions were invited for the State Championship. Okemos lost to Shelby High School by the close score of 175-200, leaving Okem.os third place in the state. 19
