Time Marches On In September of 1944 fifteen of the seventy seniors who will graduate in June started on the road to education in the little white school in Okemos. As the years passed we increased our numbers and left the carefree days of the grades to enter the serious years of high school. During our Freshman year we were under the leadership of President, Stuart Reuffer; Vice-President, Jack Weiss; Secretary, Ruth Davidson; and Treasurer, Ed Thomas. In addition to the class officers we were carefully guided by our sponsors, Mrs. Clemow and Mr. Kapalla. In order to finance our operations we sold refreshments at the basketball and football games. The first of our successful dances was the Turkey Hop, with Jerry Warren's orchestra furnishing the musical background. Due to our success with our first dance we were encouraged to secure Jerry Warren's orchestra again in the spring for our Spring Serenade, which was equally profitable- Our Sophomore career had a fine start with the following officers: President, Jim Kreider; Vice-President, Jack Hagerman; Secretary, Elaine Kalush; and Treasurer, Tim Willis. We welcomed the Freshmen with a party and had a class supper in the school gym. We continued selling refreshments at the basketball and football games. We gave the Harvest Moon dance with music supplied by Earl Henry and his orchestra. To complete the dynamic Sophomore year we held a Sadie Hawkins record dance for the entire high school. We began our Junior year with Ed Berry's orches- tra supplying the music for another fabulous all-high party. Our class proved its dramatic ability by putting on our Junior Play, But Fair Tomorrow, under the direction of Miss Schram. The whole class made it an entertaining and worthwhile project. More additions to our class treasury were obtained through the sales of ice cream. The highlight of the school year was the Junior-Senior banquet and prom, held in the Union Building. Blue and silver place cards and programs carried out the theme Now Is The Hour. After a delicious dinner, we danced to the music of Earl Henry and his orchestra. The class officers for the Junior year were President, Tony Brocci; Vice-President, Alice Burch; Secretary, Bonnie Andrus; and Treasurer, Jackie Paty. The year went by swiftly and before we knew it we were Seniors. We began our last year in high school with a Homecoming Dance . Senior Class representatives Max Creaser and Connie Emery were chosen Homecoming King and Queen- Following the Homecoming ceremonies, we sorrowfully gave our last dance, a Halloween party held in the school gym, as students of Okemos High School. In the spring we were guests of the Juniors at the Junior-Senior Prom. Suddenly graduation was upon us with Baccalaureate Sunday and a week later the big day of Commencement with Dean Ernest O. Melby as our speaker. We express our gratitude to Mrs. Clemow and Mr. Kapalla, our high school sponsors. We hope that the future years will enable us to carry out the aims that we have set for ourselves. 1 7 John Bratzler Bratz Wise men for the most part are silent. Okemos High has given us confidence that we can meet this challenge. Our problems at the present time are being solved with the help of our officers: President, Bob Butcher; Vice-President, Roger Shull; Secretary, Sue Telling; Treasurer, Nancy Hull; and our sponsors, Mrs. Reed and Mrs. Byington. We have many dates circled on our calendar signifying social events. Our Christmas Semi-Formal, Silver Bells , was held in the Gym with music supplied by Lorin Richtmeyer and his band. The Junior- Senior Prom was held in the Union Building at Michigan State University with Billy Richard's band supplying the music- Each of these activities will long be remembered as highlights of our Junior year. Our bank account has grown substantially as a result of ice cream sales every Tuesday and Thursday noon and the presentation of the traditional Junior play. The many memorable activities in which we have engaged as Juniors give promise for a bright and exciting future. •JC Ice Cream Sales Silver Bells Sheila Bates Barbara Bell Ron Berner Ethel Bickel Kay Bratzler Bob Butcher Jim Byington Dave Cardone Nancy Carter Juniors Nancy Chandler Bob Cooper Valada Courtright Sandy Crego Rosemarie Dashner Dick Dickinson Mary Louise Donaldson Sue Edwards Dave Ellinwood Hugh Farr Laura Gingery Eleanor Griggs John Haga Alan Harvey Nancy Henderson 1C Carol Hogle Case Hoonhout Nancy Hopkins Nancy Hull Dennis Jason Don Keck John Laird Jerry Largent Jim Larnard Charmaine Loudenslager Dorothy Nelson Douglas Nelson Juniors Martha Parisian Iris Jean Prentice Mary Ratermann Lora Rathbone Sara Jo Reed Dennis Rich Jim Scheidt Roger Shull Charles Sower Jean Sproul Lynne Stuerhof Jim Sylvester Sue Telling George Van Duesen Tom Wagner Ted Warner Ron Webster Roberta Wight ' Not Pictured: Jerry Cairns Jane Gifford 37 Cheese It! Miss Schram, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Grinnell. Our S. R. A. representatives are Ron Whitmore, Terry Marzen, and Joe Luttrell- We have participated in several activities. With Patty Zalewski as our committee chairman we made money selling at the games. We all enjoyed Ring Committee the Ladder working on our float for the Homecoming Parade; Diane Kelty represented our class in the queen's court. In the spring we gave a high school dance which was enjoyed by everyone. We were well represented in all school activities. Many of our boys went out for football, basketball, track, and baseball. Diane Kelty was on Varsity and Vicky Shick and Mary Madzia were on Reserve cheerleading squads. Keep your eye on this class! The girl chosen to represent us in the queen's court at Homecoming was Ann Grettenberger, and we were very proud of her. We held a class skating party at the Michigan State University ice rink on Thanksgiving eve and a good time was had by all I Putting on our first all-high dance, the Heart Hop, was fun. Valentine decorations added to the gayety of this record dance. At basketball games we sold refreshments to add to our treasury and credits. Our sponsors are Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Richey, Mr. Walbridge, and Mrs. Halliday. Jim Breckenfeld, Gary Roberts, and Don Kiger have served as our S.R.A. representatives. We have had a good year and look forward to our next three years in Okemos High School. 43 Selling at Games The Heart Hop Freshmen Kristin Airola Paul Ashley Lillie Barwick Karen Berner Cecil Blowers Jacqueline Bobier Sharon Bohstedt Jim Breckenfeld Jean Bredahl Jerry Brinker John Brocci Kenneth Brown Martha Cardone Mary Cardone Sandra Church Roger Clough Marion Coleman Lottie Crafton Gary Crandell Roberta Darragh Gerald Davidson Lee Decker Richard Deloof Mardell Dietz Judy Donaldson Robert Dorn Tom Dreps Daryl Drew Jerry Edgecomb Dennis Emery Dave Ewing Dorothy Fackler Dick Flanders Susan Fontes Carol Foote Judy Foster Richard Gifford Ann Grettenberger 44 June Griggs Steve Guernsey Tom Gunn John Gustafson Cheryl Hamner Sandra Hawkins Dan Hickey Deborah Hill Dale Hoke Sandra Hulkonen Dan Hynes Patricia Johnson Freshmen Sharon Katalenich Don Kiger Arlene Kimball Myrna Kleis Kathy Kulsea Edgar Lantz Mike Largent Judy Lawrence Gary Link Dawn Loudenslager Mike Luck Charles Martin Janet Martin Ann McNitt Leanne Meyer Mary Miller John Mitchell Nancy Moulton Carol Natharius David Nelson Nancy Nemeth Lee Newland Diann Newman Larry Nicholson Margaret Oja Joan Pamment Janet Patterson Julie Powell Sharon Prether Warren Pruim Bruce Reason Barbara Reuffer Richard Rich Shep Richard Gary Roberts Loren Roberts Gary Sawyer Timothy S-chade Freshmen Wilbur Schade Evelyn Seeley Kermit Shaull Lynn Sich Roma Simmons Beth Ann Sims Laurel Snider George Stacy Pauine Stamback Aldan Stampfly Jack Standen Sandra Stevens Richard Stokes Dianne Stratton Carolyn Theil Ruth Anne Thomas Ronald Unruh Cliff Van Deusen Janice Weaver David Weber Mary Wilkins Kathleen Wosko 4 Bob Yeoman Barbara Youngs Marlene Zoss Roy Adler Stanley Allen Ernie Baldwin Jim Barlow Kay Barron Starr Bates Pat Beach Gerald Bloomquist Joyce Bredahl Allan Brightman Bill Brown Francis Buzzell Mary Cameron David Coats David Cohen Daniel Conklin Terrance Cook Corinne Corkrey Walter Cornell Dick Courtright Lynda Curtiss Darlene Dashner Barbara Delamarter Don Dickinson Diane Dietz Clyde Donaldson Elaine Dorn George Dunkelberg Linda Ellinwood Penny Emery John Fackler Nancy Ferrar Patricia Gray Mark Hadley David Halliday Leslie Hart Richard Haskin Bob Hatch Robert Heaps Marsha Hodge Eighth Grade A'7 Ruth Hoke Sue Hubbard Kathy Johnson Phil Johnson Sheila Johnson William Jones Janet Kalush Martha Kenworthy Arthur Kimball Jackie King Carol Kjnney Judy Klotz Blaine Knowles Ron Kozma Dick Largent Brian Lawton Mary Louise Leininger James Liskey Sharon Loudenslager Donald Love Andrea Maccardini Linda Marlatt Jerry Marshall Jonathan Marshall Suzanne Martin William Martin Lynn Miller Suzanne Miller James Moulton Mary Moyer Nancie Murphy Tom Nothstine Jon Newman Lee Parkhurst Douglas Patterson Carol Piper Ward Rathbone Eighth Grade A Marion Raymer Sue Reed Allen Reese Jim Renz Garry Roberson Larry Roberson Bob Rulison Carol Savage Sandra Shank Jon Shick Larry Sich Barbara Silloway Eighth Grade Not Pictured: Russell Amon William Siebert Donna Franklin Jeanne Simmons Raymon Simonson Ann Smith Dennis Soltow Cecilia Somers John Sower Peggy Sprik Jean Standen Sarah Stefflre Roger Stoll Mike Stroud Ann Stukenberg Dick Taber Jo Anne Thomas Joy Thorn Nancy Turner Rick Turner Ann Unruh William Voss Mary Wagenvoord Mary Ann Wagner Richard Walker Bob White William Wight Fred Woolsey 49 Russell Aaron Jon Airola Jill Axline Vicki Backus Barbara Ball Jon Bartow Tom Beach Larry Best Eric Boughner Robert Boykin Bob Breckenfeld Sharon Brown Gene Brownfield Marlene Burch Judith Byington Deanna Caul Karen Cheney Cheryl Chiesa Seventh Grade Dolros Church Stanley Conroy Susan Curtiss Wilson Davidson Bob Delind Richard Dorn John Eberly Rodney Ellison Cheryl French Patty Furgala Chuck Gifford James Greer Carolyn Griggs Margot Groves Ron Hansen James Harvey David Hatch Nora Mae Havens Harry Hayden Marsha Hinman Linda Hodges Wayne Holden Marjorie Hulkonen Sharon Ingersoll Judy Johnson Susan Jones Nancy Kaiser Karen Kaltenegger Judy Keller Jeanette Kreider CA David Krider Bernie Marcussen Alfred Martin Linda Miller Howard Murphy James Nash Karen Olson Alvin Peterson Penny Peterson Rose Ann Peterson Toni Peterson Stan Powell Danny Rahfeldt Carole Reinertsen Jane Renz Joan Reynolds Jim Rhodes Seventh Grade Sally Richards Lynda Ripley Ronald Roberts John Romwalter Sue Rulison Ronald Simmons Sandy Simmons Bruce Sines Robert Smith Diane Smithcors Kathy Solomon Melvin Sproul Bill Stacy Vernon Stehman Don Stevens Marilyn Stratton Donald Swartz Mary Beth Taylor Bill Van Deusen James Vawter Vernon Vinge Terry Wallen Thomas Wheeker David Whitmore Kenneth Whitmyer Danny Wilkins Kenneth Winters Sally Woolner David Young Bob Youngs «t School Days SEPTEMBER— 10. S R A The principal purpose of the Student Representative Assembly is to establish a better relationship between the students, the faculty, and the administration. Just as important are the aims to create a greater sense of responsibility, leadership, and cooperation among ourselves and to promote the general welfare of Okemos High School. The S.R.A. has functioned smoothly and efficiently this year under the leadership of Jack Weiss, President; Jim Kreider, Vice-President; Barbara Bell, Secretary; Tony Brocci, Treasurer; and Mr. Baker and Mr. Arasim, Faculty Advisors. The S.R.A. this year, as in the past, has tried to promote better school spirit. Activities this year have been Homecoming, hobo day, shutterbug day, and clean-up day. The assembly, social, and publicity committees have aided in these projects. The members of the S.R.A. took a tour of the school during Education Week to see what improvements could be made. Their suggestions were then presented and discussed at the White House Conference on Education in which all members participated. The president and selected members attended Community Council meetings throughout the year. Jack Weiss, Jim Kreider, Barbara Bell, Mr. Baker and Mr. Arasim were this year's representatives to the State Student Council meeting in Ann Arbor. r a Who’s Who HONOR SOCIETY — Seated: Sara Jo Reed, Lynne Stuerhof, Kay Bratzler, Lynne Johnson, Jeanne Katalenich, Carol Hogle.
