Butch McKinney. With all lights out, the curtains of the stage were parted to reveal a life size painting of Mr McKinney under a spotlight while TAPS was sounded by Larry Meaders Then came the voice of Mr Risenhoover with The taps have sounded and the lights are out So surely God planned this pattern As we kneel in silent prayer Each thread the dark and fair Dear Lord why was he taken from us Was chosen by his Master skill We wait for the answer there And placed in the web with care Then soft as the voice of an angel Dear loved ones only He knows the reason Whispering the answer sublime And guides the shuttles which hold Man s life is laid in a pattern The threads that broke our family circle And finished in the loom of time And took him from our fold Man s life is laid in the loom of time No not till each loom is silent To a pattern he does not see And the shuttles cease to be While the weavers work and the shuttles fly Shall God reveal the pattern T111 the dawn of Eternity And explain it to you and me Some shuttles are filled with silver threads So we will have to accept the dark threads And some with threads of gold As needful in the Weaver s skillful hand While often we find the darker hues And be thankful for the threads of gold and silver Are all that they may hold In the pattern which He planned for man But the weaver watches with skillful eye flflere REVEILLE was sounded by Larry Meadersl Each shuttle fly to and fro The bugler has sounded REVEILLE And sees the pattern so deftly wrought All the lights glow bright and fair As the loom moves sure and slow Our hearts are made lighter for now we know lt was all in the weaver s plan up there Then Mr Risenhoover presented the portrait to Mr Oakes who responded with Mr Risenhoover Faculty Members Students and Friends It is a genuine honor to accept for the Okemah Schools this fine portrait of a great teacher a Christian gentleman a devoted husband and father a worthy citizen and a sincere friend Those of us who knew Mr McKinney fand that includes practically all who are presentj loved him for lus kindness of spirit We respected him for his honesty of purpose and effort and we honor him for his great ac complishrnent of service As we look at his portrait from time to time it will inspire us to always do our best in serving God and our fellow man Since Mr McKinney was such a great teacher and this memorial service is conducted during the Christmas season I would like to close with this thought If Christmas is a time for giving then for Mr McKinney every day was Christmas Every day Mr McKinney tried to give encouragement to young minds inspiration to young hearts guidance and direction to young hands and feet Every day his pupils looked to him for leadership for love and loyalty for recognmon and reward And always to his pupils Mr McK1m1ey extended that greatest gift the gift of understanding of knowing what each one is and what he may become Truly for Mr McKinney every day was Christmas every day a day for giving , . 1 1 1 1 1 . . 1 1 , . . . . . , . . . . . . . .
