SUPERINTENDENT S li MESSAGE f ma Dear Students: In dedicating this issue of the Panther to the Okemah Chamber of Commerce, the members of the annual staff are recognizing the value and strength in a united effort to go forward. Men and women from many different businesses, trades, and professions in Okemah have come together for the purpose of making local improvements. Such interest and support will result in a better Okemah. Every effort that is put forth to improve the city of Okemah will help the Okemah schools. Schools, like a Chamber of Commerce, belong to the people of a given community, and the progress and accomplishments of both depend upon active and intelligent public support. In the process of educating the youth of a community, it is the duty of a school to train and en- courage young people to become useful citizens. Such training will point out the value of being men- tally alert, morally strong, co-operative, and willing to serve where needed. . You boys and girls who attend the Okemah schools are enjoying many educational advantages that are the result of active interest and support on the part of your parents, Chamber of Commerce members, and the whole adult population of Okemah. As a token of appreciation for this adult interest and help, it is the responsibility of each of you upon reaching maturity to become active in your support of com- munity institutions, organizations, and worthy projects. It will be well to remember that the only way a person can repay the advantages afforded him as a youth is to see that the young people of the next generation are given equally as good, or better, advantages than he enjoyed. The welfare and progress of our community, state, and nation is dependent upon the type of citi- zens our youth of today are developing into as the adults of tomorrow. I feel confident that progress will continue, because Ibelieve in the youth of Okemah, Oklahoma, and America. Sincerely, Cecil E. Oakes
