Campbell As we come to the end of our Senior year we would like to pause and pay tribute to David Juenger, a classmate who was with us for only three years. David was our friend and we miss him. DEDICA TION We, the 1971 Timepiece Staff, wish to show our respect and admiration by dedicating this annual to Mr. Otto Detering. For the past thirty-one years Mr. Detering has driven a school bus to and from school, basketball games, and field trips. He began his service to OCHS by driving one school bus in 1940. He now owns 5 buses which are driven 100,000 miles a year. When we think of the millions of miles he must have driven, we feel compelled to thank him for all he has done for OCHS. With much appreciation and gratitude, we proudly dedicate this book to Mr. Detering. CHARLES M. DUNNING SUPERINTENDENT ' S CORNER If you were a coach developing an athlete, there is much physical and mental condi- tioning you would do. You would toughen his muscles and body, and you would try to give him a courageous spirit that plays hard no matter how badly the score may be going against him. You are developing a player for the great game of life. That player is you. You are your own coach. You can be a star if you make yourself a star. You will have frustra- tions, everyone does. You will have anger. You will get up steam. Every good boiler has a safety valve, usually two, but the steam that blows off is wasted. It is better to have some steam wasted, than to blow up the boiler, but control of your steam is es- sential. The steam that is worthwhile is the steam that drives something, warms some- thing that needs warming, or cooks something that needs cooking. The valuable steam is the power that isuseful. If you read the stories of great men, you will find that these men had periods of frustrations, anger, and depressions. Remember this: Greatness has sensitiveness. High spirited people may be more conscious of snubs and discourage- ments than people who are lacking in spirit. Thoroughbreds sometimes have personal- ity difficulties, but the thoroughbred overcomes personality difficulties. Ifcf- u f- K Wt M Norbert Bening; Charles M.
