We hope thatthisbook, through words and pictures, may help you recall happy days in later years. J-AjlA W. , VyKJJu . x - i xi; a. x v .. .tJU - ' : i;MmAT p r siAj . J fc ORGANIZATIONS ATHLETICS ADVERTISING AUTOGRAPHS ; IN MEMORY OF MISS IRENE PIPER The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; ... A dedicated teacher for thirty nine years. Miss Piper passed away on December 7, 1968 after being ill for several months. For the past eleven years, she taught English and was Librarian at O.C.H.S. During this time, she knew and loved many of her students. TTie Class of 1969 feels an extra loss since Miss Piper was not only our teacher but also class sponsor. DEDICATION EVERETT L. DEASON We, the TIMEPIECE STAFF of 1969, in an effort to express the gratitude and appreciation we feel, dedicate this annual to Mr. Everett L. Deason. Through the past twenty-one years, Mr. Deason has given freely of his time and talents as class sponsor, TIMEPIECE Advisor, and school photographer. As a teacher here, he has always shown patience and understanding toward one and all. There is no way we can repay him for everything he has done for us; but, in an attempt, we dedicate this annual to him. G m o m Stanley Garbs, President; Ewald Steinkamp; Norman Karg; Roy Brammeier, Secretary; Norbert Bening; Arthur L. Koetting, Jr.; Charles M. Dunning, Superintendent; Owen Lehde. BOARD OF EDUCATION 1st Semester Mrs. Everett Ostendorf 2nd Semester Mrs. Lawrence Klasing CHARLES M. DUNNING Supcrintcndenl s Corner Are you afraid to attempt something new for fear you might fail? Mayije you are right; you might fail the first, second, third, or even the hundredth time, but it you try long enough and hard enough, you will succeed. Consider these examples. Thomas A. Edison had over ten thousand failures before he invented a successful incandescent lamp. Early failures are forgotten if success eventually results. Babe Ruth hit a seemingly unapproachable total of eight hundred fifty one home runs in his major league career. This fame overshadows the fact that he also struck out more times than any other player in history. One thoi sand three hundred and thirty times he failed and walked to the bench amidst jeers and ridicule. Fear of failure did not prevent his returning to bat again. One of the most prominent men in tlie history of our country was soundly defeated when he ran for State Representative. His general store failed, and seventeen years elapsed before he could pay the debts incurred. He ran for the House of Representatives and the Senate and was badly beaten each time. In spite of these failures, Abraham Lincoln was President of the United States at a time when our country sorely needed a resolute leader. Even as President, Lincoln faced frustration and obstacles at every turn, but the final triumph was his. Keep trying! Don ' t give up. Tomorrow you will succeed. EVERETT L.
