lass CU'elSCOTy What a glorxous day nt was when the Cadets were graduated from Orlton Grade School after exght long years of elementary trannxng We were now ready to tackle a four year course m hxghly specxalxzed flymg so that by 1947 we would be ready to start on our last bxg test fhght The Arr School then consrsted of Martha Armstrong Alta Lomenlck oanne Taylor eannme Nenlson jxmmxe Lewns Patr1c1a Burdette Betty Armstrong Peggy Irwm Maynard Purvrs Veda Fae Casey Marne Smith Patr1c1a Wcaser Bob Wrlhamson johnny Broadway Izvan Whntehead Charhe Grbson Madelme Gear Mary Spaldxng Betty o Posey and Beulah Marshall Our fhght mstructor the first year was Mrs Helen Bradford Our Freshman year was full of dxlfxcult studying and trylng to get mto the swmg of flymg smoothly Durmg the second and Sophomore year of a1r trarnmg a new Cadet Barbara Sue Wells who had been statxoned at a Texas trarnmg school came to take the place of Cadet oanne Taylor who was sent to Drum rrght flymg school We had a new flrght lnstructor thrs year Mrs Lola Bess Northmgton who proved to be a sery good lnstructor Our thrrd and umor year was very excltmg as we were only one year away from our fnrst and most xmportant Atomlc Rocket Sh1p fhght Thxs year the Cadets gave a Nrght Club banquet m honor of the Semor Meet My Wxves whxch made a h1t at the Ollton Arr Termmal Mlss Betty jo Morrrs fhght mstructor for that year helped us through thns trymg per od Cadet Joanne Taylor returned to Orlton Tralnmg School thxs year Calvm Elhs also was transferred from Chandler Amr Base and Helen Tyree and Bob Inman were transferred from Ohve Arr Base After three long years of trammg the Cadets of Orlton Arr Base were at last only one year away from be1ng perfect pllots but thus year some of our cadets would be leavmg the a1r base to secure a yob that would requxre some of the hrghly specxahzed trammg that had been taught to them Durnng ou last year we had a very good mstructor Mr Wayne ohnston who had yust returned from seruce and also hrs wxfe Etta Lou who became a cadet Veda Casey marrled Thomas Bales and Thomas was sent to the army The cadets who left our base were Betts I azlm Storts and Marne Smxth Woolf Thrs year we recerved some new cadets who had been m the servlce of the U S A but rnost of the cadets passed thenr flxght test and were grad uated bv Chrxstmas Some of the lady cadets decnded to secure drfferent names such as Casev to Bales Irwm to Shelley Nerlson to Lmdsay Armstrong to Guest and Tavlor to Webbert It has been a tough fhght but we the senxors of 1947 have nnrshed wxth a perfect landxng Compliment: Of J C Penney Co Cushmg Oklahoma 5 7 , .
