I have every confidence that each and everyone of you will be an upriyxt citizen loyal to yourself, your family, your community, and your country. ' We leave our High School with the usual feeling of sadness which comes as a result of leaving things dear to ue. But we Realize we must put away this sadness and go out to fulfill the duties facing us as American Citizens. Good Citizenship is on of the things we have been striving for all through our school years. Before we started school our Parents had the responsibility of teaching us to share with others and how to follow the laws of good sportsman- ship with our family es well as the little neighbor boy or girl. Next, the patient teachers of our grade school days gave to us further training on how to work together. Our greatest preuaration for responsibility and citizenship we gained as we went through high school. There we grasped the idea that we weran't Ln school just to learn facts from books but that our teachers and parents had been trying to make good citizens out of each one of use We learned that in H. S. when we have worked to our full capacity, when we have learned to do things for ourselves, when we have trained to develop high standards for our school and keen than high, thm we have learned some thing of what America wants of her people. When we acquired the habit of.tak1ngs care of our books and the equipment nroided for us by the citizens of this community to educate us for this demo- cracy: when we learned how to cooperate with each other, when we trained to respect our classmates and teachers and when we in turn were good enough citi- zens to denand respect from then, then we had taken a mighty important step on the trail of goodl citizenship. We move on up that trail of good citizenship wclth confidence and enthus- iasm. Dorene Whitt YA If EJUY DJ-GUI D1-o1Io'o O0 of t Another spring. Another Graduation. For us who are before you tonight the volume of our high-school days has come to a close. No longer willfu- knowledge come from text-books but from the hook of Life itself. During the years in high-school a great war has been fought and won,19av- ing the world in a turbulant, unsettled state. The 191.6 graduates will plav an important part in the future of our countrv. We need to be good citizens - each willing to do his narticnlar job well to help build 3 better world. Tonight marks the goal for which we have labored these four years. We are UHPPY to have achieved this goal, yet we realize that something is gone that we can never have ageing the care-free davs of high-school and the fiend- shic of teachers and classmates. It is now my sad dug-,y to bid 8 farcwgll to the -school which has fostered us. to the teachers who have been so patient in our mmetime stumbling attempts to learn and to the friends with whgm we share so many memories. We wish also to thank our nav-ents and ' friends f01' C100ll.raa1ng us in so many ways. NOW we must go on to achieve new goals, make new friends. The door tothe Future is Open- May we keep our ideals man anaeacn of us realize the ambi- tions we have set before us. Pame1a,Porter rlIL. l'l l . 3.7 I In the fall of '42, fourteen good-looking Freshmen start- ed climbing the ladder of fame by entering old O.H.S. Gordon Dipple, mark Mclienzle, Betty Jean Smiley, Anna Lu Farris, Dorene Whitt, Pamela Porter and Marian Shay all blew in from Kevin with Kennard Irgens and Cliff Bucher nailing from Ferdig, while Bill Byrne, Dale Flynn, Wanda Schaeffer, Alton .Black and John Oien were rannents from Oilmont. After surviving a tough initiation from our upper clas- men, we became full-fledged Froshies, hoping that one day somebody would get wise and put an elevator so that Mrs. Dahl would not have to spend so much time puffing around to find us. The next year we moved up a notch and were promoted to the carved desks in the sunny Sophmore room where we gave Miss McAullay the pleasure of watching over us. In this year we gained Lavonne Heck from Libby, Dennis Robertson from Malta, John Schwab from Great Falls. We lo st Anna Lu Farris to Chxt Bank, Betty Jean Smiley to California. The term of Ll,-LS we called ourselves 'big shots' and walked into the-Jr.-Sr. room under the fim hand of Mrs. Ched- sey. This year we worked our fingers to the bone and wore our brains to a frazzle calculating money to feed the starving Seniors. In this busy year we gained Betty Jean Smiley from Cal- ifornia and Harley Umphrey from Shelby. We lost La Vonne Heck to Lewistown, Alton Black to Dutton, John Schwab to Great Falls, John Oien to California and Dale Flynn discontinued sckml Now in out last and mighty stand we occupied the desks near the window, which makes us all the brighter so that we can cheerfully look down our noses at all underclassmen and use the privileges which the forego ng Seniors left us. As we reach the top of the ladder we find ten retaining Seniors strutting up to the stage to receive their diplomas. Of these are: Pamela Porter, Dorene Whitt, Wanda Schaeffer, Marian Shay Kennard Irgens, Clifford Bucher, Damy Mitchell, Bill Byrne, Harley Umphrey and Gordon Dipple. , Mari an Shay O O f ll F11-11737 The Rocky Mountain ranch of Clifford Bucher and Bill Byrne was the scene of much activity in the sux-ing of 1956. Invitations have been sent and all ls ready for the grand reunion of the class of 19l.6. . The first arrivals are just coming down the road now. It's Marian and Corky Irgens. Harlan is now a very success- ful interior decorator with Macy and Co. in New York City and Corky is head coach at Columbia University. Who's that driving un in the slick new Cadillac? If it isn't Dorene Whitt. She says she likes her new Job as head of the music department at Stephens College very much. Just got a call from Gordon Dipole. I'm afraid he'l1 be a little late for the reunion. '1'hey're really keeping him busy these days as ohlef illustrator of several leading magazines. Danny Mitchell just drove in from attending the big 0ilman's Convention in Tulsa Oklahoma. Did you get your 104 price boost in oil, Danny? Here comes the ovmqer of the 'Diamond Horseshoe , San Franci sco's leading night-club. You can recognize Harley Umphrey if you look beneath the loud snorts coat. wno's the cute couple driving un ncvf? It IOOKS like Mr. and Ure. llark McKenzie. She is the former Wanda Schaef- fer. They've been hapwlly married since ldark's di.S0hB1'8G from the Navy and are living ln Great Falls. 1 al 1 Pamela Porter. She is doing all rigtuggoiggt gurls? of tie Juvenile Dellnuuency Denartmellii in Washington D.C. Well folks, that's all for now. Maybe we'll meet again ln 1966. Pamela Porter XNHJ CLASS WILL We, the Senior Claes or 'L6', being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish, and declare this our last will in the manner and form as follows: First we give to the Junior Class our sunny, carved up desks by the windows and hope that Cope finds them in them when the first bell rings each day. Next, to the future Spanish II Class, all the gum found under the table as you know it is not allowed in Spanish Class. And to all the undergrads our many talents and good manners acquired during our four years in High School. Corky Irgens, the pride and joy of our basketball team, wills his athletic aoillty to Jack Swenson. We hope to see you on the first five next year Jack. Bill Byrnes wills to Glen McKee his quiet and pleasing personality. Pamela Porter leaves to Hanky Vander Pas her ability to get along with the teachers and her good grades. No more trips during school now Hanky! Gordon Dippl6 wills his letters ' from the Draft Board to anyone of the future Senior eoys that wants them, Harley Umphrey leaves his 'happy Saturday nights' and his ability to circulate any and all the new slang that's possible around the school to James O'Kins. Marian Shay leaves her dare-devil attitude to Odes Delp. Boy you'd better sell that motorcycle for sure now Odes. Danny Mitchell leaves his position as head mechanic in Heglgs Garage to Jackie Jarrett. - Clifford Bucher wills his hearty laugh and ability to argue himself out or any tight spot to Bobby Thompson who never acquired Clifford's gift of gab. Wanda Schaeffer wills her height to Corky Thompson and anyone Cbut Mark! in the whole U. S. Navy to Earline. Dorene Whitt wills all she doesn't know about Geometry to Beverly Whitt.
