Alumni frequently stop in the library to visit with former teachers on the Alumni Day sponsored by the guidance department on the last school day before Christmas vacation. 2. interscholastic rivalry be- tween the Oil City and Franklin football teams is emphasized by the pre-game bonfire held at the Colt League Baseball Field. 3. Jeanne Myers, the 1973 Homecoming queen, symbolizes the traditinal role queens play in special ceremonies. 4. The combined Girls' Choir marches in the traditional candlelight procession preceding the Christmas music program presented December 21, 1973. 5. Couples dance at the 1973 Junior-Senior prom. Changes Desired in School Curriculums 4-F 1, Q ' ff E 1 : 5 ' ls: if i Nlost seniors feel that the curriculum at OCHS prepares students for jobs or for fur- ther education, according to a survey of the senior class taken by the Oil Can staff. How- ever, many of the same students expressed a desire for changes in the curriculum. Sug- gestions ranged from specialized science classes, mini-courses in English and history, no gym classes, and more foreign languages to dropping all subjects and making school an elective. Three new courses have been added to the list of electives at OCHS. They are consumer economics, machine transcrip- tion, and computer science. Also, a variety of summer courses such as English book review, health, and world history are avail- able to students wishing to receive credit in these courses in order to lighten the heavy academic load of the year. 13

Traditions Upheld by Student Body The students of Oil City Senior High place great importance on the traditions of the school, according to a survey taken by the Oil Can staff. While most seniors tended to think that the selection of queens was unimportant to the school, saying it was a popularity con- test, many said that queens were important to carry out tradition. Other traditions listed as being important to the students were: the Alma Mater, Christmas candlelight program, prom, Alumni Day, and pep assemblies. 15
