FINE ARTS The Fine Arts Department —music and art—provide the students with artistic or music aptitude with an opportunity to elect courses stimulating to aesthetic as well as academic growth. The OCHS. Band, A Cappella, Girls' Choir, and Girls' Chorus provide the music for the pep meetings and school games, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter programs, as well as presenting several concerts throughout the year. EDUCATION 4 WAYS Health-Physical-Safety-Special Mrs. Somonsky teaches the girls' health classes and Mr. Russell, the boys' health classes. In this course physical fitness and good grooming and importance of personal hygiene are stressed. Later the girls work on cancer booklets while learning the danger signals of cancer. Caution, Courtesy, ond Common Sense are the three C's of Highway Safety. Here students learn thot driving is a full-time job, ond thot it consists of more than sitting in the driver's seat steering the wheel. ZIEGLER English, History Mathematics, Science Vocational Education Director Manual Skills Are Essential VOCATIONAL The vocational department consists of the welding, outo mechanics, and machine shops. In each, a boy can receive the basic training that he needs to get a job or to further his education in his chosen field. The boys elect a battery of classes including such special ones as blueprint reading and industrial arts. Dennis Kurtick helps Mr. Jokubowski adjust a machine.
