RETIRING TEACHERS Mr. James D. Townley Assistant Principal for the past twenty years is retiring after thirty-nine years of service. At the attendance desk. One of the ways we shall remember Mr. Townley. To raise the thought and touch the heart be thine. We believe that each of these men and women who is now retiring has made Pope's words a reality. These teachers have dedicated a lifetime to the young people, and their contributions are immeasurable. We seldom appreciate their efforts at the time, but we hope the final success of our lives will compensate for their many sacrifices. Dedicated Teachers End Careers of Service RETIRING TEACHERS. From Row: Mrs. Caldwell, Miss Leyda, Mrs. Gill. Back Row: Mr. Lewis, Mr. Townley, Mr. Townsend, Mr. Brown, Mr. Wells. 17

MR. CARL H. TOWNSEND PRINCIPAL Mr. Carl H. Townsend, who is retiring on July 1, has completed forty-two years of service in the educational field. For the past twenty years, he has been principal of Senior. In this capacity he has been called upon to solve many problems—some major, some minor. Each was solved intelligently, fairly, and with the individual's welfare uppermost in his mind. We as students cannot comprehend the magnitude of his position, which has demanded so much of himself. May he find compensation in the following words of Emerson. The reward of a job well done is to have done it. A favorite postime. Mr. Townsend proudly displays his catch to grandsons, Michael and Mark. Mr. Townsend was interested in our many activities. He is pictured during the opening exercises of a football game. With him are Mrs. Townsend and their grandsons. Mr. Carl H. Townsend 16

Only the Wise Profit from Sought Advice Ethel C. Caldwell Book Reports Eleanor Daubenspeck Librarian Irene F. Gill Guidance Francis J. Hovis Special Education Vera A. Lamey Home and School Visitor Dana M. Pringle Guidance Director Lois S. Walz Assistant Librarian SPECIAL SERVICES The time and effort given to us by our guidance counselors are seldom appreciated when they are given. Mrs. Gill and Mr. Pringle held individual consultations and gave tests throughout the year to help determine our greatest interests. Mrs. Walz and Mrs. Daubenspeck headed our library and kept it running efficiently. Miss Lamey's objective as our home and school visitor was to advise the troubled student, and help develop healthy mental attitudes in school. 18 Special services offer us a foundation on which to build a future.
