1939 ANNUAL PUBLICATION OF THE SENIOR CLASS OF OIL CITY HIGH SCHOOL Editor .... - Robert Pollard Associate Editor .... A1 Herman Business Manager ... Cadmus Goss Assistant Business Manager - - Robert Grazier Advertising Manager ... Charles McLouth FOREWORD The ideal yearbook should help the members of the graduating class remember their activities and associations together during their years in high school, the years when they have acquired many of the privileges of life without taking over many of the responsibilities. We, the editors, have worked on the proposition that a reasonable amount of written material is necessary to supplement the photographs in portraying life in our school. Full schedules in school and part time jobs have made it a real effort to produce this book. Nevertheless, we offer no apologies; we have done our best and are proud of this, the fruit of our labors. DEDICATION To the man who, in two years as superintendent, has brought effective action on needed improvements in Oil City schools, with two buildings under construction and curricula undergoing study and revision; to the man who has given his interest and cooperation in every phase of our school life; to the man who has made the very atmosphere of our school more friendly; to Mr. Vaughn R. DeLong The 1939 Oil Can is respectfully dedicated. SCHOOL . . . THOMPSON PRINCIPAL Mr. Thompson has kept good discipline in our school, but has not made that discipline oppressive. He has enforced strict observance of rules, but has always granted reasonable favors and given kind help and assistance. ( 13 1 FACULTY Nellie Bailey Herbert C. Sponsoring ticket sales and ushering for school plays; 4. Operating candy stands; 5. Purchasing slacks for the cheer leaders. Because of their numbers and their inexperience they did not sing in public, but they have worked hard and have learned a great deal about music in general and singing in particular.
