ALL FEMININE APPEALS ARE SOFTLY (?) VOICED AS TAXI AND DRIVER ' S ENDURANCE REACH THEIR LIMIT ARRIVAL If you are a coed, you may be one of two varieties, the someone new who ' s been added or a return-of-the-native upperclassman. Prior to your arrival at Wesleyan ' s sta- tion, your sweet temper has been taxed by the trials of the center aisle of the train. But it was fun meeting other Wesleyan-bound girls and fellows, and exchanging in- formation and speculation concerning the treat you have in store. You learn that the lassie beside you is the third-generation representative of her family at Wes- leyan. At the station you pile into an under-nourished overcrowd- ed cab and try to breathe or hold your breath until you are delivered at the dorm. Into the dorm; you start the climb to the elevation assigned to you for the year; first, second, or third floor. Together with your roommates, and disregarding un- packed luggage, you promptly put out the welcome mat and start to promote the good neighbor policy by wandering the length of the hall exchanging hellos with the other coeds of the class of ' 48. If you ' re one of the upperclass clan, you think It ' s swell to be back. Having been conditioned to crowded trains and rooms to be made livable, you generously spread the good tidings and tips for quick adjustment among the newcomers. V r -t J REGISTRATION THE DAY ON WHICH ONE CHARTS HIS COURSE FOR FOUR MONTHS WITH AID OF ADVISOR ' S COMPASS REGISTRATION What is it that is the first something to write home about which college students agree is the worst curse of any course (second to final exams) ? What knocks a whole day off the books, is one of the professors ' pet-peeves, and is a drain on students ' stamina? Many adjectives have been em- ployed by exasperated registerees to describe this painful process of picking the classes and fitting them together in a pattern for the pursuit of knowledge. Everyone agrees it is a necessary evil, yet in the history of higher educa- tion, no one has devised a less agonizing means to the ac- complishment of this end. With the wisdom of ages, the upperclass victims rise by the dawn ' s early light on re- gistration day morning to assure (barring minor traged- ies) that their proposed schedule will arrive at the final stage as near a replica of their original plan as possible. Pronouncing blessings and benedictions upon those lovable professors who arrive early too and will sign them in be- fore the starting-strike of the clock, sometimes they are lucky enough to be finished by noon (as the schedule in- dicates it should be) .
