■LBi ijou- Prexy ' s Message IGH intellectual achievement, the rich development of character, and a broad social outlook are all included in the educational purpose of Ohio Wesleyan. Freedom of discussion, intellectual initiative, independence in judg- ment, range in reading, intensive study in selected fields of knowledge are constantly encouraged. Insight must be disciplined, mastery of a subject must be stimulated, community of effort must be rational and effective, the greatest human ideals of the age realized in our student body, if college life is to yield its noblest benefits. Instructors at Ohio Wesleyan must give themselves to their students as well as their knowledge. Personality must be made not only intelligent but skilful in the affairs of life and effective in the imperative demands of a moral world. All the resources of pa- tience, sympathy, breadth of knowledge, and maturity of religious ideals, are employed in the training of the student. Our methods of training are personal. The student with capacity for brilliant thought must be stimulated to scholarship; the student capable of fine technical abilities must be developed for expert service; the student possessing the characteristics of leader- ship must be given the broadest, most systematic, and best balanced view of his work in life; the student with an average mentality must be enriched, informed, and quickened so that he will fill his place in business, in law, in medicine, and in the community in an ex- traordinary fashion. Our fellowship is one of service and sacrifice as well as one of rare delight in the joy of human contacts and the rich associa- tions of earnest men and women. Life at Ohio Wesleyan is never dull or drab. It is full of the variety of noble personalities and rich in the cosmopolitanism of many minds. The spirit of Ohio Wesleyan is the achievement of the best in study, the finest in play, the most Christian in conduct and the diffusion throughout the world of the truth, the beauty, and the wonder of life.
