Some Facts About Ohio Wesleyan OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY was founded under the ' patronage of the Methodist Episcopal Church in l84l. It became a College of Liberal Arts under President Thomson in IS44. In 1877 the Ohio Wesleyan Female College was absorbed and co- education established. The School of Music and the School of Fine Arts were also estab- lished in l877. The Department of Oratory was instituted in l894. One year later, in IS95, the School of Business was organized. Ohio Wesleyan has a Gymnasium that cost seventy-five thousand dollars and is considered by many the best in the state. Slocum Library contains more than fifty-five thousand bound volumes, besides the periodicals. The growth of the Library averages two thou- sand volumes a year. One-half the cost of educating every student is borne by the Univer- sity. lncluding all departments and all assistants, the faculty numbers over one hundred and fifty. Bulgaria, Canada, Chili, China, Ecuador, Hawaii, Japan and Syria are some of the foreign countries represented by students attending O. W. U. The students this year number over twelve hundred.
