JL Harry A. Caton 0-5 oar d of JmsteeS The nine members of the Board of Trustees for Ohio State are appointed by the Governor of Ohio for a term of seven years. At the present time the chairman is Harry A. Caton, and he is assisted by Edith Campbell, vice-chairman; Carl E. Steeb, secretary; and Charles F. Kettering, treasurer. Two years ago Julius F. Stone, former president of the Board, became its first chairman emeritus. In its meeting chamber in the Administration Building, the board assembles on the second Monday of each month. This Board has complete charge of all matters pertaining to the University, which at the present time includes a Graduate School and ten colleges: College of Agriculture including the School of Home Dargusch. Thompson, Atkinson, Campbell, McPherson, Caton, Altmaier economics, College of Arts and Sciences including the Schools of Jour- nalism and Optometry, College of Commerce and Administration in- cluding the School of Social Administration, College of Dentistry, Col- lege of Education including the School of Nursing, College of Engineer- ing including the School of Mineral Industries, College of Law, College of Pharmacy, College of Veterinary Medicine, and College of Medicine. In these colleges are included seventy departments housed in seventy modern buildings, from which have gone forty thousand gradu- ates and seventy-five thousand others who did not complete their work. With a value of $23,000,000, the campus today includes over twelve hundred acres. Under the able guidance of its Board of Trustees, Ohio State has grown from the agricultural college of 1873, having seventeen students enrolled, to a modern university, annually offering training to over sixteen thousand students, and it now ranks fourth among state universities and sixth among all the universities in the United States. First Ohio State graduate to become gov- ernor of Ohio — that ' s John W. Bricker. Ohio State was proud of him during his university days when he was a campus leader, holding the presidency of the YMCA, membership in Sphinx and Delta Chi Fraternity and numerous other campus organizations. He was catcher on the baseball team and an outstanding debater. In the University law school he also made a notable name for himself. Ohio State is even more proud of him now that he has achieved state recognition as governor and national rec- ognition, too. Whispers of a possible presiden- tial candidacy within the next decade are being heard. John W. Bricker — smiling, genial, and a leader of men — The Makio salutes you! Lewis Morrill, vice presi- dent of the University, for guidance, and he ' s always helpful and willing to aid in all their problems, for he understands Ohio State, its students, its faculty and its administration as few men do — he ' s been a part of all branches. As a student he held editorial posts on The Lantern and The Sundial and wound up his undergraduate career with election to Phi Beta Kappa to show for his scholastic achievements. After gradua- tion he was a newspaper man in Cleveland for some years. Later, as secretary of the Ohio State Alumni Association and junior dean of the College of Education, he grew closer than ever to the University and its problems. From junior dean to vice president of a great state university was a long jump, but capable Mr. Morrill took it in his stride. As an ad- ministrator and as a leader, he has shown his ability. J.
