TO EX-PRESIDENT RIGUTMIRE.... Ohio State University misses Dr. George W. Rightmire, the kindly man who guided it as president for twelve years until his retirement last year. Nearly half a century Dr. Rightmire was closely associated with the University, as student, dean, and president. The first Ohio State graduate to become president of his alma mater, Dr. Rightmire made the Un iversity a model of its kind, saw it grow, and heard the acclaim of the country. Alumni have erected a monument in the little village of Center Fur- nace, Lawrence County, Ohio, at the birthplace of Dr. Rightmire. He has a larger, finer monu- ment, however, in the hearts of all Ohio Staters who have had the great good fortune to be associated with the tall, smiling man. He spent this year in Europe, where history-changing has been frequent, but The Makio knows Dr. Right- mire ' s heart will always with the University. And he knows our hearts are always with him. i-

we present the undergraduate class officers and outstanding students, at the same time forming a broader base of control elements. Since we are primarily concerned with the life of the students, our paths lead us into School Life, the second division, where di- verging interests and sidelights are fused around academic endeavor, the underlying motive. Here the paths will cross many times. At their focal points stand the B.M.O.C. ' s of campus life. We must leave the campus proper by a longer route to round out the social and ath- letic sides of the student. At the ends of the outer paths lay Organizations and Athleti cs, the third and fourth divisions of the 193 Makio. Standing along the edge of our col- lege community, their paths are longer ones, yet are linked strongly to the University. It is here on paths dulled by time, that alumni, faculty, and students . . . the past and present . . . find a common meeting , The past is relived and future growth ted for Ohio State University, the great- est of them all. It is here that the paths are not only a means to an end, but an en themselves, r A

First Ohio State graduate to become gov- ernor of Ohio — that ' s John W. Bricker. Ohio State was proud of him during his university days when he was a campus leader, holding the presidency of the YMCA, membership in Sphinx and Delta Chi Fraternity and numerous other campus organizations. He was catcher on the baseball team and an outstanding debater. In the University law school he also made a notable name for himself. Ohio State is even more proud of him now that he has achieved state recognition as governor and national rec- ognition, too. Whispers of a possible presiden- tial candidacy within the next decade are being heard. John W. Bricker — smiling, genial, and a leader of men — The Makio salutes you!
