-i. iflll III I r £ pA w AVS o f ng in a network of narrow, red ribbons, serve to hold each and every element of the Uni- versity in bondage. From the early days of Ohio State, when eager students traveled cattle trails to and from Worthington Pike (High Street), until to- day, the candidates for degrees have played an important role in mapping fresh trails to be fol- lowed. Today we find the complexities of Univer- sity life, whether academic, social, or extra-cur- ricular, inextricably woven into one big pattern — Ohio State — by the worn walks, linking nowhere with everywhere. There is a story about Ohio State, passing in review, that conforms to none ever told, and we have dared to use a new plan or organization in presenting it to you. When we enter the outer paths leading to the campus, we are concerned, not with each element, but the University as a whole. Right- fully then, our first thoughts concern University Officials, the center of control over the network. In our first division. Colleges and Classes, the paths lead from the center of Administration to each college, where the Deans, faculty, and graduating seniors occupy the spotlight. With less emphasis. Ty — rt — -

we present the undergraduate class officers and outstanding students, at the same time forming a broader base of control elements. Since we are primarily concerned with the life of the students, our paths lead us into School Life, the second division, where di- verging interests and sidelights are fused around academic endeavor, the underlying motive. Here the paths will cross many times. At their focal points stand the B.M.O.C. ' s of campus life. We must leave the campus proper by a longer route to round out the social and ath- letic sides of the student. At the ends of the outer paths lay Organizations and Athleti cs, the third and fourth divisions of the 193 Makio. Standing along the edge of our col- lege community, their paths are longer ones, yet are linked strongly to the University. It is here on paths dulled by time, that alumni, faculty, and students . . . the past and present . . . find a common meeting , The past is relived and future growth ted for Ohio State University, the great- est of them all. It is here that the paths are not only a means to an end, but an en themselves, r A
