THE I999 'l l'l-Cl-'KID SHEPARD DUPRE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES NIVERSITY HALL, the dean of buildings of Ohio State University, is the nucleus around which the University has grown. With ivy- COLLEGE OI' AGRICULTURE covered walls, musty halls, and half a century of tradition, it is well-fitted for the home of the College of Arts and Sciences, the heart of culture. With an encompassing, inclusive curriculum including languages, history, the social sciences, mathematics, sciences, philosophy, and psychology, it furnishes a splendid background for the development of a broad cultural life. Either degrees of a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts may be secured after the completion of four years of work in this college. ITH the rise of the Agricultural Revolution in England came the need and necessity for a scientific study of agriculture. All the branches of thorough experimentation and research were utilized in the study and culture of the soil. From this inauspicious beginning have grown agricultural schools and universities. Ohio State, founded originally as an agricultural school, has grown into a large university, but its farming school, with its animal sciences, dairy technology, forestry, home economics, horti- culture and applied entomology courses, ranks as one of the best of its kind. To supply this need, the College of Commerce and Administration developed. It includes also the schools of Journalism and Social Administration, and oiers particular courses to students desiring training in accounting, finance, banking, indus- trial management, marketing and foreign commerce. Actual practice in writing and printing a newspaper is given to those students in the School of Journalism. The degree of Bachelor of Science is given for a completion of the work in the college or the two professional schools. I.I EADED by a prominent psychologist, Dean Joseph Arps, and assisted by an able staE of instructors, the College of Education has grown to a prominent position in the educational cycles of America. There are, in important positions in the schools of this country, teachers who have taken work in this college. The cultural life of tomorrow will depend in part, to the teachings and research work of the educational school of this Univer- sity. The four-year curricula leads upto the degree of Bachelor of Science, and is intended for the professional training of high school, elementary teachers, principals, and school supervisors.
