THEI9-BBTT1 CLKIO It1GII'l'MlItl-I Ll'l l'l,H more than a year ago. Lew Morrill was lifted out of the junior deanship of the College of liducation to he- come vice president of the University . . . the first in its history. The appointment gave President Hightmire additional relief from the burden of adminis- trative details, especially in the field of Uni- versity Relations .... on and off the campus. But it did more than that. The tact, the insight, the understanding. the capaeity for work, the gift for ideas. the com- mon sense, tl1e flair for getting things done. and the instinct for doing the right thing at the right time which distinguished hlorrill earlier as junior dean, as alumni secretary and in newspaper work have marked his first year in the vice presidency. His newspaper and alumni work gave him the outside point of view. His work in the College of Education equipped him with the viewpoint of the student and educator. This combination has been invaluahle in his new capacity, where his sympathetic under- standing helps to solve many a problem and where the number and variety of his tasks give him an opportunity for a constant and growing usefulness to the entire University community. JAMES E. POLLARD HE most eagerly awaited University pub- lication each year is the Makio. It pre- sents vividly all phases of student life and interest in print. in picture, in drawing, and in myth. Experienced seniors know where to draw the line hetween fun and actuality. An able group of students has collaborated in pre- senting this. one of the best Makios of all time. Its appearance is a great University event. YVarmest compliments are extended to the Makio Board which herein makes its how to the University community. Wvith great appreciation, GEORGE VV. RIGHTMIRE HH announcement of the death of Mr. lighcrt Mack came as a distinct shock to those in University circles who knew and loved the man, and as well to those whose acquaintance was only with the record he left as a ten-year member of the Board of Trustees. lalarlier in the fall the retirement of hlr. Hack brought a distinguished figure to the campus in the person of his successor. Mr. Newton U. llaker. THE EIJITOR MORRILL
