Dean Alonzo Tuttle . ■ t COLLEGE OF LAW 7 ' - function of the College of Law is primarily to I prepare men to practice law. There is no great V- demand for an increasingly larger and larger num- ber of practicing lawyers, but there is a great demand for a constantly increasing number of men coming to the Bar who are thoroughly grounded in the knowledge of the law. The purpose of this Law School is, therefore, not to see how many men it can graduate but to see to it that the men who come to it as students go out with high ideals of service and with trained minds. It is in this way that the College of Law can do its greatest service to the State. That i t has done so in the past and is doing so today is evidenced by the very large number of successful law- yers whom it has turned out, and who are today occupy- ing positions of responsibility in the various communities. There is another field of service opening up in the Col- lege of Law. That is the field of research and investigation. To the law schools of the future the country will look for the advancement of the science and the shaping of the law to its proper ends. Already many of the larger schook are entering this field and into this field the College of Law of this University must also go. Our school fully expects to meet this challenge and take advantage of this opportunity. [27]

mii Umbury A. Hitchcoc COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING HE College of Engineering is dedicated to I the work of aiding its students to become engineers and valuable members of so- ciety. As evidence of its service the College pre- sents the successes of its 3400 graduates and con- spicuous achievement among more than 6000 who were enrolled but did not complete the require- ments for degrees. It is our desire to serve the best interests of all those who enter the College. Engineering is one of the three oldest colleges at Ohio State. It has had a uniformly healthy growth, and has become one of the largest and best engineering schools in the country. The eight different degrees offered cover the basic fields of engineering, and the Engineering E.xperiment Sta- tion offers excellent opportunities for advanced work in many fields of research. [26}

Dean John H. . Upham Dean Harry M. enuni.s COLLEGE OF MEDICINE y ' n E College of Medicine feels that it is doing its I ( part in spreading the growing reputation of Ohio V-X State University. Last year over a thousand applications tor admission were received, a very large number of which were from surrounding state. As only one hundred could he ac- cepted, this number was practically hand-picked by our competent Entrance Board. Of this one hundred, forty- five held scholastic degrees and the remainder had two or three years premedical college training. The opening of the new wing will greatly increase the capacity of the hospital and it is hoped will augment ma- terially its service to the community and the University. COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY Hi; College of Dentistry is now requiring tor en- I trance, two years of work done in a College of V-X Liberal Arts. Dentistry is a highly specialized unit in public health service, of which Medico-Surgery is the outstanding ex- ponent, and requires, as does the latter, two years of Lib- eral Arts in order to build the educational foundation through certain prescribed subjects Dentistry today cannot be successfully practiced with- out a training which imparts to the one entering the pro- fession the capacity to comprehend all pathological condi- tions directly and indirectly concerned in the oral cavity (medicine), and to render a skilltul manipulation in all types ot oral restoration (surgery).
